1979 Girls Little League All-Star Review

Little League Girls All-Stars
Win First Post-Season Tournament

The Brookline Girls Little League All-Star team stormed through the two-game elimination North Baldwin Tournament by knocking off seven other teams en route to the championship. Their final record, including a triple-header, was 6-1. Their only loss was to Munhall, who they came back to beat twice in the finals.

The roster was: Holly Ballard, Anna Bronder, Karen Christian, Cindy Dewey, Shelly DiPippa, Dolly Erny, Cindy Foster, Lisa Heuer, Mary Honick, Kathy McConnell, Missy McLane, Shelly Ott, Michelle Phillips, Laurie Roth, Sandy Spratt, Eileen Thomas. The alternates were Mona Impell and Pam Wiseman.

The girls did exceedingly well for their very first All-Star competition. The MVP award went to Kathy McConnell for her outstanding play. But the games could not have been won without the throwing and fielding ability from the infielders: Holly, Lisa, Dolly, Karen and Mary. Cindy Foster, who pitched six games (40 innings), gave up only seven walks altogether.

All in all, every girl on the team put forth a lot of hard work and effort to make this tournament successful. The manager was Gene McLane. The coaches were Rose Roach, Linda McLane, Bonnie Canali and Laurie Frew.
