Volpatt Tile Repeats As Champions!

They may have a new sponsor, but the results were same as Jack Henry's Volpatt Tile, formerly Quaill's Cleaners, repeated as Little League champions with a two-game sweep of St. Mark in the title series.

JULY 23 - Both teams went with their best hurler hoping for a victory. T.J. O'Leary for Volpatt and Dom DePasquale for St. Mark. Volpatt showed that they could hit the long ball as they collected all of their runs on 3-run and 2-run homers by T.J. O'Leary while Dave Servetnick blasted a solo shot to ice the victory 6-4. DePasquale tried to help his own cause with a 3-run homer but it wasn't enough. Joe Motznik singled twice and Billy (Chicken Man) Caye scored twice to ice the cake and give Volpatt a 1-0 series edge.

JULY 26 - With a 1-0 series edge for Volpatt, St. Mark threw undefeated Dale Rusnak at them to silence the big bats. Rusnak did just that for three innings, intentionally walking T.J. O'Leary three times. St. Mark built a 3-1 lead. But in the bottom of the fourth, Tom Budway's towering homerun tightened things up at 3-2. In the fifth, Volpatt tied the game as Ron (The Blonde Bomber) Kinzel singled home Steve Rohall to make it 3-all. Then in the home half of the sixth Joe Motznik and Dave Servetnick singled, bringing up Billy (Chicken Man) Caye, who singled home the winning run and brought Volpatt its second championship in a row. But Volpatt couldn't have done it without the excellent efforts of outfielders Ron Katanick and Percy Gum. The game brought an exciting end to an exciting season.
