Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle - 1950

The Golden Triangle
 1950

This view of the Point area taken in 1950 shows the Point Bridge, the Pennsylvania Railroad Freight Yards and the warehouses that take up most of the land where Point State Park lies today. Soon, Renaissance I will take place, and all of these structures will be razed to make way for Pittsburgh's first phase of city redevelopment. These efforts were led by Mayor David L. Lawrence. Note the warehouse on the Allegheny riverfront being dismantled.

A color picture of the Point in 1950 showing the old Freight Yards and other structures before their demolition. Note the Steamboat Cafe on the Monongahela riverfront near the bridge. This became a popular eating place during the construction of Point State Park during the decade to come. The photo below shows much the same view in black and white.
