 Station

Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad

This railroad, now a part of the New York Central Lines, was placed in operation in 1879. It was single track and extended from the Jones & Laughlin steel mills on the South Side to Youngstown, Ohio, following the Ohio, Beaver and Mahoning valleys. Further expansion eastwards brought the P&LERR in contact with the Western Maryland Railroad, thus giving a direct route from Pittsburgh to Tidewater.

The original passenger station in Pittsburgh was a frame structure which was replaced by the present terminal in 1901. The Terminal Annex building and the Central Warehouse were constructed in 1915 and 1916.
