In 1964, Breining Street underwent a transformation to accomodate the increasing vehicular traffic. From Brookline Boulevard to Glenbury Street the roadway was widened and improved. Guardrails along the steep hillside that bordered Brookline Park. The project cost $425,000 and, in addition to the improvement for drivers, the improvements brought a increased safety for the children that walk the road daily to attend Carmalt School.
