Brookline Blvd and West
Liberty Ave - 1909
Then and Now
|
The intersection of Brookline Boulevard and West Liberty Avenue in 1909 during the opening phase of the laying of the new trolley line to East Brookline. Note Bodkin Street in the background. The trolley line to the Boulevard was a Pittsburgh Railways right-of-way, and vehicular (or wagon) traffic was prohibited. Bodkin Street was Brookline Boulevard until the right-of-way was widened and paved. The intersection of Brookline Boulevard and West Liberty Avenue in 2004. There are no more street car tracks and no more dirt. This is now a very busy intersection. Automobiles have replaced the wagons. Some of the homes on Bodkin Street look familiar. |
