	WEEK #11 - November 4, 2006 - DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

	8-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 8 - Steel Valley 2

	Scoring Summary:

Taylor Thornton run (Joey Shulik run)

It was another chilly morning, and once again our youngest
Knights found themselves in a tough defensive battle against
a determined opponent. Steel Valley opened the scoring with
a safety midway through the first quarter. Both team's
offense's sputtered as the defenders put up a solid wall of
resistance. At the end of the first half the score read:

	Steel Valley 2 - Brookline 0.

The third quarter was another scoreless adventure. As the fans
warmed themselves with coffee and hot chocolate, the "Never
Say Die" Knights defenders continued to keep the Steel Valley
offense on ice. Then, midway through the fourth quarter, the
Brookline offense came alive and created a little warmth of
	its own.

Taylor Thornton found a seam in the Steel Valley line and
dashed to the endzone for the go-ahead score! Joey Shulik
followed by powering his way across the goal line for the
two-point conversion, giving the Knights a 6-point lead, and
all the momentum they needed. The defense turned up the heat.

Steel Valley's offense had two more late game possessions.
Both times the Knights defenders shut them down. End of Story!
	Division Champions - Brookline Knights!
Joey Shulik and the Knights
put the CRUNCH on Steel Valley.
Congratulations to the coaching staff, the players and all the
fans who braved the wind, cold and freezing rain to bring home
the Knights first championship in the SSYFL.
Coaches and players gather
around the 2006 SSYFL championship
trophy. It was a heartwarming moment
on an otherwise bonechilling day!    Head Coach Mike Manuel holds
the championship trophy. The kids
earned it, but they couldn't have
done it without the dedication of
the coaching staff and Coach Mike.

	9-UNDER

 	BROOKLINE 14 - Southside 8

	Scoring Summary:

	Connor McGinnis run (conversion failed)
Connor McGinnis run (David Suwalski pass from Connor McGinnis)

From what I've heard this was another example of domination
and submission. This is arguably one of the best Knights teams
in their 33 year history. Since the Steelers have the claim to
the title "Steel Curtain" we'll have to say this defense is
something akin to the "Steel Wall." In 11 games, the Knights
defense has given up only 24 points, mostly late game scores.
On the other side of the ball, Connor McGinnis,	Michael Roper
and Zach McGrail lead a powerful offensive juggernaut that
batters opposing defenses until they just want to go home.

Give the Southside Sabres credit. This was a hard fought
contest against a worthy opponent who came to play. However,
with all due respect, there can be only one Division Champion,
and this year that title belongs to the Brookline Knights!

	WEEK #10 - October 28, 2006 - DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME

	8-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 8 - West Mifflin 6

	Scoring Summary:

Taylor Thornton run (Joey Shulik run)

With the wind whipping and a steady rain that chilled the
bones, both teams engaged in a defensive struggle for the
first three quarters. West Mifflin took a 6-0 lead early in
the fourth quarter. Their conversion attempt was stopped just
inches from the goal line. Loren Wicks took off on a long run
on the next possession, but the offense went into reverse and
turned the ball over on downs. The Knights got the ball back
with less than two minutes to go. With 1:24 remaining, Taylor
Thornton went 10 yards around the left side for a touchdown.
Joey Shulik iced the game-winning conversion to give Brookline
an 8-6 victory.	Never Say Die! GREAT GAME KNIGHTS!

Did anyone else notice how that annoying chirping bluebird was
silenced when Shulik scored on the conversion? Thank you Joey!

	Scoring Summary: (unavailable)

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

 	West Mifflin 34 - BROOKLINE 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Jacob Elk run (conversion failed)

It was cold, windy and raining. West Mifflin dominated the
first half, and as their score rose, the temperature dropped.
They led 28-0 at halftime. As the rain turned to sleet in the
final quarter, the Knights offense brought a little warmth to
their fans as Jacob Elk found some traction and scampered 45
yards for a touchdown. West Mifflin added a final score to
match the temperature at game's end.

	DIVISIONAL TIE-BREAKER GAME - October 24, 2006

	13-UNDER

	Thomas Jefferson 20 - BROOKLINE 6

	11-UNDER

	Baldwin 12 - BROOKLINE 6 (OT)

	Scoring Summary:

	Jacob Lowden run (conversion failed)

Note: This was the 11-Under Knights last game of the season.
It was a tough year for our team, but through it all they
never gave up and kept coming back, week after week. Their
first and last games may have been their best. Both were
overtime games. Our Knights came up short, but these were
hardfought battles, especially the last. The Knights held a
6-0 lead until the last minute of the game, only to see
Baldwin tie the score with 40 seconds remaining. A fine
goalline stop on the next play kept the game tied. Zach Spath
opened the overtime period with a ten yard sweep around the
right for a touchdown, but unfortunately the score was
nullified by a penalty. The Knights fought down to the three,
but came up short on fourth down. On the ensuing overtime set
Baldwin scored on their third play from scrimmage to put an
end to the Knight's season. Although it was a winless year
with many more downs than ups, I choose to remember this last
game and forget all the others. These kids played a great game
of football, and even though they may have come out on the
short end of the score, they looked like winners to me.

PARENTS! ... Please help out
with the concession stand duties
when called upon. Lisa doesn't
just seem to work non-stop, she
does work non-stop. So feel free
to stop by the stand and see if
she needs some assistance. It's
worth an hour of your time to
help raise money for the kids.

Adam Salicce is our official soundman and
on-the-field announcer, the John
Madden of Brookline Knights football.

The Knight is too cool, but he
can't flip burgers and dogs. If you
enjoy cooking on the grill, an hour
on the Event Grill is the thing to do.

The official scorekeeper, Sean McGrail,
keeps the clock ticking and, hopefully,
the Knights point score increasing.

SPECIAL THANKS to our many volunteers, without whose
dedication and hard work our young Knights could never be.
