WEEK #1 - September 1, 2012 @ Carlynton Athletic Field
10-UNDER

Scoring Summary:
Marques Watson 60 run (Mason Ventrone run)
Dominic Leonard 9 run (Mason Ventrone run)
Jack Sullivan 18 pass from Nick Roell (conversion failed)
Nick Roell 45 run (Marques Watson run)
Marques Watson 10 run (Marques Watson run)
Demetri Bose 35 interception return (conversion failed)
Interception: Demetri Bose
NOTES: Brookline's 10-year old Knights opened the season with a
resounding 44-0 victory over the Carlynton Cougars. Quarterback
Nick Roell guided the offense up and down the field, powered by
running backs Marques Watson and Mason Ventrone. The crafty
Roell also showed a flair for the passing game, with several
nice tosses, including a touchdown to Jack Sullivan. The score
at halftime was 30-0, and the Knights were firmly in control.
The Brookline defense, led by Dominic Leonard and Demetri Bose,
put in a solid effort, smothering the Cougars the entire game.
During the final minute of the contest, a lone Cougar got loose
and took off downfield with a clear path to the endzone. The
stray cat was tracked down from behind by Jahmaine Hatten to
preserve the 44-0* shutout.
After last season's heartbreaking loss in the Super Bowl, these
young Knights have something to prove. Under the guidance of
Coach Don Helman and his wily staff of assistants, this team
should improve game-by-game. If this contest is any indication
of things to come, this could be the year for Brookline's Tens.
* The SSYFL website lists this as a 50-0 Knights victory. After
reviewing the coaches game notes we still come up with 44-0. We
can only conclude that the scorekeeper included a sixty-five
yard first half scoring run by Mason Ventrone that was called
back on a penalty.
WEEK #1 - September 1, 2012 @ Carlynton Athletic Field
11-UNDER
Carlynton 36 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Jonathan Morin 65 pass from Nathan Ault (conversion failed)
NOTES: Brookline struck first on the third play of the game,
with a touchdown toss from Nathan Ault to Jonathan Morin, then
silenced their guns as Carlynton came back to score thirty-six
unanswered points en route to a season-opening 36-6 loss.
WEEK #1 - September 1, 2012 @ Carlynton Athletic Field
13-UNDER
Carlynton 26 - BROOKLINE 14
Scoring Summary:
Quran Powe 91 pass from Brent Ivory (Christian Frazier run)
Sharron Steave 50 pass from Brent Ivory (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: D'onte James
NOTES: Coach Joe Nicholas and his 13-year olds took one on the
chin in their season opener. The Carlynton Cougars took control
of the game early, building a 14-0 lead on a safety and two
long touchdown runs. The teams then traded scores to close out
the first half with the Cougars ahead 20-8.
Brookline played Carlynton to a draw in the second half, but
couldn't seem to put together a sustained attack. In a game
marred by mental mistakes, dropped passes and two delays due
to lightning strikes, the Knights showed that they have a ways
to go before regaining that championship swagger of last year.
WEEK #1 - September 2, 2012 @ Baldwin High School
9-UNDER
BROOKLINE 28 - Baldwin 6
Scoring Summary:
Jamyle Liebro 40 run (conversion failed)
Jamyle Liebro 30 run (Antwain Carter run)
Grant Hamilton 4 run (Mekhi Gay run)
Brandon McGough 20 pass from Grant Hamilton (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Visawn Pennix
NOTES: Coach Bruce Morefield and his nine-year old Knights
opened their season with an impressive 28-6 victory over the
Baldwin Breakers. Quarterback Grant Hamilton led the Brookline
offense to four touchdowns, aided by a strong running attack.
The Knight defense played well, holding the Breakers to just
one score. Next week the Knights return to Baldwin for another
shot at the Breakers. The upcoming game will be an exhibition
contest and not count towards Brookline's overall record.
