One Mellon Center

One Mellon Center

The Mellon Tower is the signature building in the Mellon Corporation headquarters in downtown Pittsburgh. Construction began in 1981 and the building opened in 1983. It was designated One Mellon Center. The 54-story skyscraper is the second tallest building in the City of Pittsburgh. It stands next to the US Steel Tower on Grant Street, The skyscraper dwarfs the Allegheny County Courthouse on it's other side. Ironically, at one time the five-story courthouse was the tallest building in the city.

The Port Authority subway system, or "T", has a stop at Steel Plaza, located underneath skyscrapers, with tunnels connecting the station to both Mellon Center and USX Tower. One Mellon Center is the heart of the four-building Mellon Bank Headquarters Complex here in Pittsburgh. Included is Three Mellon Center, a 41-story skyscraper adjacent to Mellon Square.
