East Brookline - On The Car Line
|
This is a real estate brochure from the early 1920s issued by the Freehold Real Estate Company. The brochure emphasizes the trolley service as a good reason to buy a home in Brookline. At the time this was considered a big deal, and many folks took advantage of the convenience of public transportation and the suburban feel of our neighborhood. This was a time when Brookline's population was growing by leaps and bounds. The Freehold Real Estate Company was responsible for selling most of the homes in the East Brookline area. An interesting point about the Freehold Company. The spot where today's Brookline Monument (the Cannon) is located is called Triangle Park. Back in the days before the Great Depression, there was no Cannon and no Triangle Park. The little island was there, but what it contained was a small building where the Real Estate Company kept their office. Many East Brookline home sales were consumated in that little office, right on the same spot where the cannon stands now. Click on image for a larger photo |
