Party Cake Girls Establish Dynasty

There's a dynasty in the Brookline Girls Softball League.

Party Cake Shop, managed by Bill "Muscles" Crooks, made it three straight championships recently, squeezing by Dom's Cafe, Bickerton's News, PV's Pizza, and Lapcevic Flooring in nightly play at the Brookline Memorial Park's Sam Bryen Field.

Crooks was assisted by Earl "Bud" Frobe, Jerry "Top Gun" Burton, the erstwhile Marine sarge, and Tess Vogel.

Jennifer Crooks spurred the Cakers at shortstop. She was selected to the league all-star team for the third straight year and was the MVP on a championship team for the fifth straight year (two of them with Two Spots in the Little League).

She throws with the accuracy and free-arm generally associated with the best of the boys, and she hits with power.

Irene Pollice, a third baseman, also hits with power, bats clean-up and throws well. She's a three-year all-star and her nickname is "The Alabama Slammer."

Rita Gossett was a rock at first base who plays with versatility.

Helen Linke is a solid outfielder with arm accuracy. She's a two-year all-star.

Susan Malley is a contact hitter with fielding versatility.

Kelly Wallace, an all-star pitcher for two years, can play any position. She was a leadoff batter this summer.

Melissa Boris, latest of an athletic family to play in Brookline, backed up Wallace on the mound. She's an outfielder with great speed, but probably will be the team's No. 1 pitcher next summer.

Angela Cerrilli has a good glove, strong bat and a permanent smile.

Lisa Kohner earned a starting position in left field as a rookie, She'll continue the winning tradition next summer.

Saundra "Muggsy" Lewis, another rookie, is a quick learner with a winning attitude.

Jeanine "Beanie" Wertz is a strong second sacker with an accurate throwing arm. She's a good hitter with great speed.

Marcy Dattillo was a utility player who played in the outfield along with the catcher position. She also was available to pitch, if needed.

Lorrie Klein, owner of a good attitude, was the starting center fielder as a rookie.

Autumn Grier, a rookie, played in the outfield and was available to fill in at third. Her future appears bright with her good speed, good throwing arm and good bat.
