Party Cake
Continues Dynasty
By Taking Second League Title
The word "dynasty" was heard more
and more this year along Brookline Boulevard when people referred to
manager John Trainor's Party Cake softball team. For the second
successive year, Party Cake (12-4) won the Brookline Girls Senior
League softball title.
Anchored by a contingent of
15-year olds, Lisa Heuer, Kim Horne, Chris Murgi and Jackie Rosenthal,
and augmented by holdovers Kellie Acquaro, Holly Ballard, Karen
Klodowski, Kathy McConnell, Debbie Micheli and rookies Lorie Fichter,
Laura Frobe, Goose Gossett, Denise Graham and Christa Holland, Party Cake
had the right blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm to repeat as
champs.
Party Cake had four girls voted to
the All-Star team this year. They are three-time all-stars Lisa Heuer and
Kim Horne, and for the second time the impressive double-play combination
of Holly Ballard and Kathy McConnell.
Lisa Heuer was the unanimous
selection as Party Cake's most valuable player.
When asked to compare last year's
winners with this year's team coach Mike Acquaro said, "I think we just
sort of snuck up on people last year. It was a shortened season and
before anyone knew we were as good as we were. The season was over and we
were undefeated."
Mike added: "This year everyone
was 'up' for us and repeating as champs was very difficult. But the team
wanted it badly. The girls were terrific this year. They had the
ability, they wanted to win and it was a pleasure working and coaching
with them."
Ed Kinavey, Pete Serio and Mark
Kinavey rounded out the Party Cake coaching staff.
