pitcher for Ressi was Joe Coyne, who suffered his first defeat of the
season.
JUNE 8 - BYMC 14, Volpatt Tile 3:
Like old man river, BYMC just keeps rolling along. This time the victim
was Volpatt Tile, who fell to the powerful hitting attack. Billy Lonero
increased his pitching record to 4-0. Chris Sestilli lashed three doubles
and powered a tape-measure homer to stun the opposition. Coach "Wild
Bill" Lonero has the black and gold primed for excellent showings nearly
every game. Volpatt was held to four singles: Dave Binkowski, Steve
Hartz, Mike Mercuri, Denny Cerilli.

JUNE 15 - BYMC 20, Legion 13:
A scrappy Legion squad stunned BYMC over the first four innings as they
forged their way to an 11-8 lead over the first place team. It appeared
as though manager Angelo Masullo was going to lead his team past the
powerful BYMC frontrunners when the "roof caved in" over the final two
frames. Twelve runs in those last two frames gave BYMC a comfortable
victory. Chris Sestilli whacked two singles and a double while Greg
Gielas added a double and triple for the winners. Also contributing to
BYMC's attack was Mike Kasparak and Donny Davin with a double apiece.
Billy Lonero came on to fire two strong innings of relief to pick up the
win. For Legion, Ian Barrett walked three times, Billy Joe Spratt walked
twice and scored twice, Billy Johnson had a double and single, and Stan
Zimmerman stroked two singles, but it wasn't enough as BYMC upped its
record to 10-1. Billy Johnson was the losing pitcher.
JUNE 18 - Droz Steel 10, BYMC 8:
The BYMC express was derailed by an inspired Droz team as Gary Reese
picked up the pitching victory with three excellent innings in relief.

to lead the way. John Barker's single was the only other hit for Droz,
who took advantage of 13 walks. For BYMC, Chris Sestilli came through
with three hits, including a triple and double. Gregg Gielas slammed a
triple and a single, while Augie Manfredo and Greg Crooks also rapped
singles. Chris Sestilli took the pitching loss.
JUNE 22 - Resurrection 6, BYMC 1:

to climb within one-half game of the league lead. Billy Wertz came
through with a strong effort in holding offensive-minded BYMC to just 4
hits. Chris Sestilli knocked a double and a single for BYMC in addition
to striking out 5 of the 6 batters he faced in a two-inning relief
effort. Greg Crooks slashed a double and single for BYMC's other two

JULY 1 - BYMC 12, Resurrection 5:
BYMC, after struggling a bit near the end of the season, came back to
win the league championship behind the fine hurling of Chris Sestilli,
who held Resurrection to two hits over the first five frames. Ressi
managed four harmless runs in the sixth inning but the game, for all

Wertz singled to account for Resurrection's only other
hit.
JULY 8 - BYMC 25, St. Marks 11:
Regular season champion BYMC added another jewel to their crown as
rulers of the 1982 baseball season by defeating St. Marks handily in the
first round of the playoffs at Sam Bryen Field. Chris Sestilli pounded a
grand-slam homerun, two doubles and three singles to lead the charge
that rang up an incredible 25 runs. In addition, Chris was once again a
highly successful moundsman as he pitched his team to yet another
victory. Greg Crooks added to the hitting assault by slamming a homerun
over the left field fence and picking up a single. Billy Lonero added a
pair of singles and Mike Kasprack chipped in a single.
St. Marks was led by Larry
Zacharis, who bombed a pair of homeruns as his team struggled to overcome
the huge BYMC lead. Larry Webber continued his fine hitting by coming
through with a double and two singles while Jeff Coury also banged out
a hit for St. Marks. Jimmy Walsh also made his presence felt as an
offensive threat by slapping a pair of singles for the losers. Larry
Zacharis was the losing pitcher.

BYMC Captures
Playoff Crown
BYMC wrote the final chapter for
the 1982 baseball season in a winning manner as they defeated
Resurrection 11-7 at Sam Bryen Field on July 18.
Chris Sestilli led the charge for
powerful BYMC by blasting a pair of homeruns in his only official times
at bat. Chris walked during his other two appearances. Already the
regular season champs, BYMC realized their goal to win the playoffs,
thereby completing an outstanding season of solid
baseball.
Gregg Gielas added to the firepower
by ripping a three-run homer over the right-center field fence and also
pitching three strong innings of shutout ball in relief to gain the
victory.
Congratulations are in order for
Manager Denny Nugent and his coaching staff that included Bill Lonero and
Jimmy Cyphers. Cyphers hasn't received a great deal of recognition for
his fine job with the boys, but to be sure, he made an enormous
contribution to the success story of BYMC. The people associated with the
team realize what his astute baseball knowledge has meant to the team as
he stayed in the background lending expertise and encouragement along the
way.
Next season may find Volpatt or
Resurrection climbing to the top. Droz and American Legion also look like
potential contenders. But for the 1982 baseball season, BYMC stands alone
as well-deserved kings of Brookline Little League
baseball.
