Nellis Sport Center Defeats Bob Smith Ford

The booming bats and superb pitching of the Nellis Sports Center baseball team carried them to an 8-2 victory in the final game of the three-game playoff series against Bob Smith Ford. on August 16.

The champion Nellis team tood the first and third games of the series.

In the second game it was Bob Smith Ford all the way with an 11-6 win, but the Sport Center came back to take the championship title in the final game.

Cary Ball had a lead-off triple in the first inning to start the Nellis team on the road to the crucial victory. He also contributed two singles in his other at-bats.

Greg Rea had three singles, Larry Webber had a triple and single, Bryan Dunlap had a double and single, A.J. Petanko had a single, Brian Murphy had a single and Dean Haskins scored a run.

Hits for Bob Smith Ford came from Steven Ross and Chris Noel with two singles apiece, Pete Molinaro and Perry Cardamone with a double apiece and Wayne Smith with a single.

The winning pitcher was Larry Webber and the loser was P.J. McDonald.

Much of the credit for the championship teams fine performances goes to the coaches. The coaching staff of the Nellis Sports Center team is: Larry Webber, Jack Kobistek, Kurt Rea and Kenny Coury. The coaching staff for Bob Smith Ford is: Greg Daily, Dick Young and Al Klodowski.

Nellis finished the season with a 15-5 record while Bob Smith Ford posted a 14-6 mark.

"These two teams are the best in the league, and on any given day one team can beat the other," manager Larry Webber said. "But today it was not Bob Smith's day, it was our day!"
