NOTES: Coach Donnie and his undefeated Brookline Knights came
to Montour High School to square off with the Southside Sabres
in what was billed as the war to end all wars. With the SSYFL
championship at stake, the two teams collided head-on in a
fierce struggle for the right to claim the title. When the
dust cleared on the field of battle, the Knights proclaimed
themselves champions by virtue of an impressive 18-8 victory.
Although the eventual outcome never really seemed in doubt,
Southside put up a good fight. The underdog Sabres held their
own for three and a half quarters, clinging desperately to a
glimmer of hope and praying for a miracle. Brookline's third
touchdown with five minutes remaining in the game ended any
thought of divine intervention. The Sabres became the eleventh
and final victim on the mighty Knights path to glory.
Brookline rode the legs of their trusty horse Michael Ignasky,
who rushed 28 times for 115 yards. While Ignasky acted as the
battering ram, quarterback Jerrad Tuite kept the Sabre defense
off balance by completing 9-of-15 passes for 128 yards. Tuite
executed the ball control game plan perfectly. The Knights had
greater than a two-to-one advantage in time of possession.
Brookline's offensive line, who so often go unnoticed as they
battle it out in no-man's land, played an outstanding game.
Defensively, the Knights smothered the Sabre attack. Midway
through the third quarter, Southside had gained only thirty
total yards. The Sabres eighty yard breakaway scoring run
added some drama, but was basically just a minor glitch in
what was a dominant performance by the Knight defenders.
In a game filled with memorable moments, one seemed to stand
out. It was the ice-breaker, the play that got things rolling.
Nearing the end of the first half and faced with a fourth and
goal from the twenty-four yard line, Tuite launched a bomb
towards the endzone. Adam Ottaviano out-leaped two Southside
defenders and made a fantastic touchdown reception. It was the
muzzle that quieted the Southside bleachers and set the tone
for the remainder of the game. Brookline would not be denied.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, fans and friends who
have traveled this long road together since those early days
of August. It has been quite an enjoyable ride. It's sad to
see it come to an end, but it sure feels good to be a part of
the best! It's been a pleasure watching such a talented group
of kids play football. The memories will last a lifetime.

Week #11 - Sunday, November 8, 2009 - SSYFL SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFF
13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 34 - Montour 0
Scoring Summary:
Adam Tajuddin 82 pass from Jerrad Tuite
(Adam Ottaviano pass from Jerrad Tuite)

Jerrad Tuite 2 run (conversion failed)
Adam Ottaviano 47 pass from Jerrad Tuite (conversion failed)

NOTES: Back in Week#8, the Knights of Brookline indulged their
ravenous appetite on the Spartans of Montour. Three weeks have
passed since that feast. In Week#11, raw Spartan was once more
the main course. This time, while buzzards circled anxiously,
the Knights went on a feeding frenzy. When mealtime was over,
not a morsel remained for the birds of prey. The Knights had
devoured the Spartans right down to the bone.
In this semi-final matchup, the Knights completely crushed the
Spartans. Brookline led 22-0 at halftime and increased that by
two scores before game's end. Led by Dominick DelGreco's 150
yards rushing, the Knights offense flourished. Michael Ignasky
contributed another fifty-four yards the hard way and Jerrad
Tuite threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Knights held the Spartans to 154 total yards,
including 102 rushing on 36 carries. Half of that yardage came
during Montour's final drive of the game against the second
line. After some Spartan trickery advanced the ball deep into
Knight territory, the starters returned to squelch the threat,
thus preserving their hard-earned shutout victory.
After ten weeks of plundering and pillaging through the ranks
of the SSYFL, Coach Donnie's elder Knights are one step away
from the glory of Any Given Sunday. Next week they will meet
the dastardly Southside Sabres in the war to end all wars.
Director Oliver Stone couldn't have scripted it any better.
The good guys versus the bad guys. Maybe Tolkien already did.
It's the Knights of Gondor versus the Orcs from Mordor. In any
case, this game is definitely destined to be a Fall Classic.
For the stat geeks among us, here are a few cool numbers. The
Knights have outscored their opponents 329-18. The defense has
only been scored upon in two of the thirty-six quarters so far
this season. The junior players on this team, over the course
of their six years with the Knights program, have a record of
55-8. These youngsters have three titles in their pockets and
room for two more. On-the-other-hand, for the senior players,
it's their final chance for their first ring. Good luck, guys!

Week #10 - Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 - SSYFL OPENING ROUND PLAYOFFS
11-UNDER
North Hills 20 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Nick Manuel
NOTES: The Brookline Knights 11-year olds finished the season
with a 20-0 loss to the North Hills Redskins. The shutout was
the last phase in the fatal nosedive that began in Week#7 and
spiraled out of control through the final game. Brookline, who
started the season promisingly with four wins and one defeat,
crashed and burned with an underachieving 4-5 record.
The eighth-seeded Knights put up a good fight against the
top-seeded Redskins. Brookline's defense held the high-scoring
North Hills offense without a point for nearly twenty minutes.
A touchdown late in the second quarter gave the Redskins a
slim 8-0 halftime advantage.
The second half began memorably for the Knights. Kicker Bryan
Bergener's booming blast went airborne for ten yards, striking
a North Hills lineman right smack in the facemask. The ball
bounced into the air and landed in the hands of Nick Manuel
for an unplanned but entertaining onside kick recovery.
The good humor did not last. The North Hills defense continued
their dominance over the Brookline offense. The Redskin backs
rolled on for two more touchdowns to seal the playoff victory.
It's time to forget about this year's disappointments. Just
think, next year these Knights will be moving up to join with
the seasoned veterans of Coach Donnie's Green Machine. Winning
will become commonplace and boys will become men. Sounds good!

Scoring Summary:
Michael Ignasky 62 run (Jerrad Tuite run)

Michael Ignasky 2 run (Jerrad Tuite run)
Michael Ignasky 80 run (kick blocked)
Interception: Dominick DelGreco
Fumble Recovery: Adam Tajuddin
NOTES: Brookline's elder Knights came to Thomas-Jefferson High
School for their opening round contest against the TJ Jaguars.
Despite showing some kinks in their armor, the Knights crushed
the Jags by a score of 30-6.
Running back Michael Ignasky scorched the turf for 248 yards
rushing, averaging 20.6 yards per carry on twelve touches. The
offensive line played a great game, opening some mammoth holes
in the TJ defense. Ignasky's speed made them look even bigger.
The Knights defense, adept all season at controlling the line
of scrimmage, played an uncharacteristically merciful game.
The TJ offense stuck close to the ground and pushed their way
forward for a total of fourteen first downs. That's by far a
season high against the fearsome Brookline defenders.
TJ's final drive of the game against the second line covered
seventy-seven yards and took nearly twelve minutes to finish.
The Jaguars one yard touchdown run with 56 seconds remaining
was the first score yielded by the Knight defense since
Game#2, ending a string of six consecutive shutouts.
Despite the subpar performance, the Knights front line turned
in their best stand of the season late in the second quarter.
The Jaguars mounted a seventy-four yard drive that resulted in
a first and goal at the Brookline two yard line. With their
backs to the wall, the Knight defenders got nasty and stopped
the TJ drive dead in it's tracks at the three foot line.
Brookline now moves on to the Semi-Final round next weekend.
The shred of humanity shown the Jaguars is a haunting reminder
that our Knights are just that ... human. Even a dragon has a
soft underbelly. Enough is enough. This is a war. There is no
Geneva Convention in the SSYFL. Take no prisoners. The elusive
Holy Grail lies just beyond the horizon. It's all or nothing!

8-UNDER
BROOKLINE 6 - Baldwin 0 (Overtime)
Scoring Summary:
Ramon White 10 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: L.J. Orbovich
NOTES: The little Knights have really come a long way since
September. This squad has learned the value of teamwork. They
have learned to play football with spirit and determination.
They've learned a lot about themselves. Most of all, these
kids have learned how to win.
Brookline's little Knights opened the day with a nail-biting
6-0 overtime triumph over the Baldwin Broncos. In a matchup of
teams with identical records, this game was a thriller. It was
loaded with drama and suspense. For Brookline, it was the
thrill of victory. For Baldwin, it was the agony of defeat.
The first half was played to a complete draw. The Knights and
Broncos blasted away at each other near midfield. Neither team
could move the ball. It was a defensive stalemate. The Broncos
led in number of plays and time of possession. The Knights
held the lead in tackles and raw grit.
The Bronco offense came alive early in the second half. On the
first possession, a Bronco broke free and charged towards the
endzone. A fine takedown at the twenty by Ramon White saved a
touchdown. The Knight defense dug in and yielded no more.
Baldwin turned the ball over at the Brookline twenty-two yard
line. The Knight offense was driven backwards and forced to
punt. Armed with great field position, the Broncos unleashed
another runner. This one bolted through the middle of the line
and headed straight for the endzone.
The runaway Bronco was hit at the four yard line by White and
Cole McMullan. The ball bounced free. It headed past the goal
line and rolled towards the back of the endzone. A frantic and
confused pursuit followed. At the final moment, L.J. Orbovich
pounced on the elusive pigskin, temporarily restoring order.
Baldwin created two other major disturbances deep in Brookline
territory. Each time the Knight defense rose to the challenge.
Bolstered by the inspired play of linebacker Marcus Jacobs,
the Bronco attacks were repelled. The final threat ended at
the Brookline nine yard line when the game clock expired.
At the end of regulation play, there was still no score. The
teams headed to overtime. Baldwin won the toss and elected to
take the second possession.
The Knight offense, which had been dormant the entire game,
decided the time was right to assert itself. On the first play
from scrimmage, Ramon White dashed to the right. He cut left,
then darted through the herd and into the endzone for a Knight
touchdown. Shebazz Anderson was denied entry on the conversion
attempt. Brookline held a 6-0 lead!
It was time for the Knight defense to get tough once more.
They had carried the team up to this point. They were not
about to let this one slip away. This was their moment.
Baldwin tried three running plays without success. On fourth
and eight, the Broncos tried once more. The Knights swarmed
like wasps to the runner and downed him for a six yard loss.
Despite the victory, the 8-year old Knights were eliminated
from playoff contention. They finished tied with West Mifflin
and West Allegheny. All three teams had 3-5 records. Only one
could advance. West Allegheny won the tiebreaker.
The setback is a difficult pill to swallow, but let's focus on
the good things. Our Knights finished the season with two fine
wins in a row. On this day, the thrill of victory once again
belonged to the Brookline Knights. Nothing can take that away.
This team has really come a long way since September.

9-UNDER
Baldwin 12 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Cullin Baker 55 kickoff return (conversion failed)
Interception: Brent Ivory, Lamar Lewis
NOTES: The Brookline Knights 9-year olds have returned! Forget
about Nancy Grace and conspiracy theories. Forget about alien
abductions. The boys are back, and not a moment too soon.
The Knights (3-4) took on the 2nd place Baldwin Breakers (6-1)
at Baldwin High School Stadium. The Knights stood toe-to-toe
with the bigger Breakers. For thirty-seven minutes the teams
played to a 6-6 tie. Only in the final three did the Breakers
pull ahead to hand the Knights a 12-6 defeat. The loss spoiled
a spirited performance by the boys in Green and Black.
The Knights got on the scoreboard quickly. Cullin Baker took
the opening kickoff and raced down the sideline fifty-five
yards for a touchdown.
The Breakers answered ten minutes later with a forty-five yard
scoring pass to even the points at six apiece. A second drive
was halted at the Brookline twenty-five yard line by a Brent
Ivory interception.
Baldwin's offense kept hammering away, but the Knight defense
got tough when it counted. Will Rupert, Marshal White, Darryl
Daniels and Randy Roscoe combined for four first half sacks.
Punter Jeremy Jenkins also did a great job, helping push the
Breakers back to their side of the fifty with two long punts.
The score was deadlocked at halftime.
On Brookline's first possession of the third quarter, Baker
burst from the pack and began a long dash downfield. Cullin
made it to the Baldwin fifteen before being brought down from
behind. This promising opportunity ended without a score.
Baldwin took over and pushed forward for two first downs. An
interception by Lamar Lewis put the ball back in Knight hands.
Unfortunately, the Brookline offense fumbled the ball away at
midfield. The Breakers took the gift and resumed their march.
A forty-one yard breakaway run ended with a nice tackle by
Darryl Daniels at the Brookline two. The fine effort wasn't
enough to stem the tide. On the next play, Baldwin scored to
take a 12-6 lead. Three minutes remained in the game.
The Knights got one more offensive series, but could not move
the ball. The duel ended at midfield. The Baldwin Breakers had
the win, but the Brookline Knights finished the season proving
that they can still play some good, hard-nosed football.
Welcome back guys!
Unfortunately for the Knights, the loss dropped them into a
five-way tie for the final two playoff seedings. Brookline,
South Side, Brentwood, Chartiers Valley and West Mifflin all
finished the season with 3-5 records. Only two teams could
advance. Brentwood and Chartiers Valley won the tiebreakers.

10-UNDER
Baldwin 28 - BROOKLINE 12
Scoring Summary:
Jake Devers 80 run (conversion failed)
Jake Devers 42 pass from Jacob Mellon (conversion failed)
Interception: Jake Devers
NOTES: Brookline's 10-year olds came to Baldwin with nothing
to lose. Already eliminated from playoff contention, these
Knights were playing for pride. They were determined to go out
with a bang. The end result was not exactly what they had in
mind, but the Knights did finish with a flurry of fireworks.
Coach Darryl Frazier mixed up the offense a bit, moving Jake
Devers to quarterback, Jacob Mellon to tight end and Anthony
Johnson to halfback. The alignment yielded some good results,
but couldn't seem to find the endzone.
Brookline took first possession. Johnson carried the Knights
to a quick first down. The drive stalled. Baldwin countered
with a sustained march, churning out four first downs on their
way to the Brookline nine yard line. A fourth down stop by
Richard Jetters and Jim Wheeler kept the Vikings from scoring.
With their backs to the wall, the Knight offense again surged
forward. Two first downs moved the ball towards midfield. Once
again, the drive stalled and Brookline was forced to punt. The
kick was fielded at the Brookline forty-eight yard line and
returned all the way for the game's first touchdown. A good
conversion gave the Vikings an 8-0 lead.
The ensuing kickoff took a Baldwin roll and was downed at the
Knight seven yard line. The offense faltered. A short punt and
a good return gave the Vikings great position at the Brookline
twelve. They found the endzone on the next play. A successful
conversion run increased their lead to 16-0.
Brookline's next possession went nowhere. They were forced to
punt once more. The kick was picked up at midfield and the
Viking return team struck a second time. The ball was carried
fifty yards for another Baldwin touchdown. With 1:38 to go in
the half, the Knights were down 22-0. Three touchdowns in five
minutes left the Brookline fans feeling a bit shell-shocked.
The Knights regrouped and came out for the second half with
their guns fully loaded and eager for a fight. They forced a
punt on Baldwin's first possession. The offense then went to
work. Strong running by Johnson and nice receptions by Mellon
and Wheeler pushed the ball to the Viking ten.
Like so many times before, the Knights drive fizzled. Baldwin
got the ball and scored for a fourth time with six seconds to
go in the third quarter on an eighty-four yard run.
Jake Devers had seen enough. It was time for the Knights to
pick up the pieces of their shattered pride. If he had to do
it by himself, so be it. Devers took off on a bootleg left
and found a hole. He burst forward and left everyone behind.
Eighty yards later, Jake was in the endzone and the Knights
had six points on the scoreboard. The last act had begun.
Five minutes remained in the Knights season. The defense had
one last chance to go out in a blaze of glory. They stopped
the Vikings cold and forced a punt. Now the offense received
their final opportunity to keep that fire burning.
On Brookline's final play, Devers caught an option pass from
Jacob Mellon. As the buzzer sounded, he sprinted to the goal,
fueled by pride and cheered on by the crowd.
Although a 28-12 loss to the Baldwin Vikings was not quite
what the Knights had expected, thanks to the Two Jakes, the
10-year olds ended their season with a flurry of fireworks.

11-UNDER
Baldwin 40 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Amaree Hatcher
NOTES: The 11-year old Knights have been transfered from the
infirmary to the Intensive Care Unit. They are on life support
and not expected to live. These once vibrant Knights, who were
4-1 and rolling towards the playoffs, are now 4-4. They have
been outscored 104-16 in the last three games. Today's 40-0
beating by the Baldwin Warriors has left them gasping for air.
The Knights previous four wins were enough to secure the final
seed in the upcoming SSYFL playoffs. But, a team can only rest
on their past laurels for so long. This situation is becoming
desperate. If these kids don't get a transfusion of willpower
soon, it is feared that they will lapse into a coma and become
just another government statistic.
It's difficult to see so much talent going to waste. Optimists
always say, "It's never too late to turn over a new leaf." Now
would be a good time, because time is not on their side. Just
in case, the night clerk is on call at the County Morgue.

BROOKLINE 52 - Baldwin 0
Scoring Summary:
Michael Ignasky 4 run (Adam Ottaviano pass from Jerrad Tuite)
Michael Ignasky 17 run (Michael Ignasky run)
Michael Ignasky 30 run (Khalil Sanders run)
Michael Ignasky 15 run (Dominick DelGreco kick)
Connor McGinnis 5 run (kick failed)
Khalil Sanders 11 run (Dominick DelGreco kick)
Zacheria Sesay 1 run (Malik Petite run)
Fumble Recovery: Marty Shulik
NOTES: This was a medievel bloodletting. The Templar Knights
are on another Crusade. They are in search of the Holy Grail.
Nothing can stand in their way. The trail of devastation left
in their wake can only be considered scorched earth. Mercy is
not in their creed. Their wrath is of biblical proportions.
21st Century terminology would best describe them as a WMD.
They are a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
Today, the wrath of Coach Donnie's Green Machine descended
upon the Baldwin Hurricanes. The Knights unleashed their main
weapon to start the apocolyptic slaughter. Michael Ignasky was
the first instrument of shock and awe. In fourteen minutes,
multiple Ignasky explosions plowed a 31-0 gap in the Hurricane
defenses. By halftime, Baldwin was dazed and confused. Down by
a score of 37-0, they begged for quarter. None was extended.
The genocide continued in the second half. The starting eleven
fired off one more salvo, then yielded to the second string.
Backup quarterback Russell Page led the Crusaders on one last
trip into Baldwin territory to extinguish any signs of life.
Accompanied by veteran reservists Joey Kalsek, Malik Petite
and Zacheria Sesay, Page finished off the Hurricane survivors
with one final blow. When the bloodletting was over, nothing
remained. Only a scoreboard stood as testament to the once
thriving Baldwin culture. It read: Brookline 52 - Baldwin 0.
With the extermination of the Hurricanes, the quest for the
Holy Grail continues. The Knights have completed the eighth
piece of the puzzle that leads to the promised land. Their
outstanding exploits to date have staked claim to the top
seeding in the upcoming SSYFL playoffs.
The Knights set out on the ninth phase of their campaign next
Sunday in the opening round of the post-season. Their goal is
to reach the holy land in three weeks and claim The Grail as
their own. Who can stop them? Who dares to try?

8-UNDER JV GAME (exhibition game)
BROOKLINE 8 - Baldwin 0
Scoring Summary:
Brenton Morefield run (Seth Derrick run)
WEEK #8 - October 17, 2009
It was a cold, overcast day. At times a fine mist filled the
air. At times it rained. At all times it was wet, and it got
colder as the day progressed. It was Packer football weather.
The players warmed to the cold temperature. They played some
good ballgames. The fans just shivered and enjoyed the show.

8-UNDER
BROOKLINE 6 - Montour 0
Scoring Summary:
Cole McMullan 99 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Zachary Munn, Seth Derrick
NOTES: The 8-year old Knights finally put it all together. The
offense and defense both played solid games. The end result
was a hard-earned and respectable 6-0 victory over Montour.
The game started out with that same old bitter taste. Montour
won the toss. The Spartan offense immediately advanced to a
first down. It looked like another one of those strange days
beginning again. Then something happened.
The Knights switched to GEICO and saved 15% on insurance? No.
They began playing ball like we always knew they could? Yes!
A Montour fumble was recovered by Zachary Munn and the Knights
took control. They took control of the ball. More importantly,
they took control of the game.
A twenty-seven yard run by Cole McMullan positioned the ball
deep in Montour territory. The drive stalled. The Spartans
countered with a breakaway run of their own. A thirty-three
yard dash to the endzone was terminated by linebackers Aiden
Logan and Ramon White at the Brookline nineteen.
From there Montour pushed all the way to the one yard line. On
third and goal, a Spartan back blasted into the pack. The ball
was jarred loose and Seth Derrick recovered for Brookline. The
official spot placed the down marker three feet from the goal.
On the Knight's second play from scrimmage, McMullan took the
handoff, found a hole, and was on his way west. When Cole's
trip ended, he stood ninety-nine yards away in the endzone.
With two minutes to go in the first half, Brookline led 6-0.
The Knight defense then forced a punt with one minute left in
the period. First down runs by McMullan and White forged
another deep breech into Montour territory. The halftime
horn signalled the end of that promising drive.
Brookline threatened once more early in the third quarter when
quarterback Nathan Ault burst free for a twenty-three yard
gain to the Spartan thirty-five yard line. A fumble on the
next play squelched this fourth adventure.
The Spartan offense, on-the-other-hand, could not move past
midfield the entire second half. The little Knights played
better than they have all season long. It was fun to watch.
Congratulations to the Knights defense on their first career
shutout. The defensive starting eleven were: Safety Nathan
Ault; Linebackers Ramon White, Aiden Logan, Cole McMullan
and Marcus Jacobs; Ends Gaige Grzelka and Jayden Payne;
Linemen Dominick Leonard, Zachary Munn, Marques Watson
and Shebazz Anderson.

Montour 40 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Bobby Goodnight, Darryl Daniels
NOTES: Would the real Knights please stand up? C'mon guys, we
know you're out there somewhere. It's time to come home.
After the past two week's blowout losses, concern amongst the
local population is turning to panic. Have our children been
secretly abducted and somehow replaced? If this continues we
may end up the feature of future Nancy Grace investigations.
So, who exactly are these imposters in Green and Black? This
is definitely not the same team that rattled off a string of
three victories only weeks ago. The names are the same, and
the kids look the same. But they surely don't play the same.
Whoever these kids are, they got pounded by the Spartans. It
was a massacre worthy of Leonidas himself. No one was spared.
The Spartan phalanx moved at will. They scored six times and
nearly added a seventh. Brookline, on-the-other-hand, went
zero for eight. The Knights pushed only once into the Montour
zone, stalling at the thirty yard line.
Would the real Knights please stand up? C'mon guys, we're all
getting a little worried. Just in case, where's Nancy Grace?

Montour 34 - BROOKLINE 14
Scoring Summary:
Christian Frazier 27 run (Jacob Mellon run)
Anthony Johnson 64 kickoff return (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Jake Devers, Ryan Hough, Demetrius Cotton,
Aaron Owens, Anthony Johnson
NOTES: This was a classic duel for thirty minutes. After three
games, the wet field was showing wear and the mud made for
slippery conditions. On this spongy surface, the teams sparred
on equal terms. It was a battle in the trenches, and the mud
stained uniforms attested to its fury.
Brookline's first possession resulted in a punt. The ball was
fumbled and Jake Devers recovered on the Spartan thirty-three
yard line. Christian Frazier then split a crease and galloped
twenty-seven yards for a Knight touchdown. A good conversion
run by quarterback Jacob Mellon gave Brookline an 8-0 lead.
Montour took the ensuing kickoff and launched their own drive.
A two yard endzone burst and a good conversion pass evened the
score at eight apiece. Both teams proceeded to slug it out
near midfield for the next ten minutes.
The Spartans struck again with three minutes remaining in the
second quarter on a thirteen yard scoring run. The slugfest
continued at midfield for the remainder of the half. The play
became sloppy and turnovers kept the ball changing allegiances
with frequency. Montour led 14-8 at halftime.
The slippery ball syndrome continued into the third quarter.
Three successive possessions ended in turnovers and fans began
wondering if the game would move from the midfield mosh pit.
Montour discovered the solution. The Spartans began the fourth
period with an exit plan. A first down provided proper footing
for an escape. A thirty-nine yard scoring run followed. On the
Spartans next possession they executed a similar strategy and
found the endzone again. With 2:35 left to play Montour now
had a commanding 28-8 lead.
Anthony Johnson had not yet begun to fight. Johnson accepted
the Spartan kickoff and promptly returned it sixty-four yards
to close the gap to 28-14. Montour silenced the critics three
plays later when they scored a final time on a sixty-seven
yard run with only seconds to go.

Montour 30 - BROOKLINE 16
Scoring Summary:
Mentchaas Anderson 60 kickoff return (Nick Manuel run)
Taylor Thornton 79 run (Nick Manuel run)
NOTES: This was another trip to the infirmary. The Knights are
sick. The high fever has caused acute delirium. They probably
should have stayed home with a vaporizer and a jar of Vicks.
You have got to give these kids credit. Despite their weakened
condition, they stood tall and came to play. For an entire
half of football, they slogged their way through the mud,
fueled by Dayquil and properly hydrated by Coach Joe.
As Brookline struggled, Montour built up a 24-0 halftime lead.
The Knights did show moments of lucidity, with a couple strong
runs by Taylor Thornton and Jordan Walker, but immediately
lapsed back into their pneumonic haze.
In the second half, the Knights showed some signs that their
condition may finally be improving. A sixty yard kickoff
return by Mentchaas Anderson seemed to infuse the team with
a burst of energy.
The defense livened up and stopped a long Montour drive in the
Knight redzone. Then Taylor Thornton took off on one of his
patented touchdown sprints, covering seventy-nine yards. As
time expired, the scoreboard read: Montour 30 - Brookline 16.
It's been a rough couple of weeks, but this team is capable of
far more than they have been producing of late. Let's get over
this and start playing good, strong Brookline Knight football.

BROOKLINE 38 - Montour 0
Scoring Summary:
Michael Ignasky 65 run (Jerrad Tuite run)
Adam Ottaviano 69 pass from Jerrad Tuite (Michael Ignasky run)
Adam Ottaviano 41 interception return
(Adam Ottaviano pass from Jerrad Tuite)
Adam Ottaviano 4 pass from Jerrad Tuite (conversion failed)
Michael Ignasky 30 run (Russell Page run)
Interception: Dominick DelGreco (2), Adam Ottaviano,
Khalil Sanders
Fumble Recovery: Martino Stein
NOTES: Brookline's elder Knights hadn't played a game in two
weeks. Like wild dogs deprived of food, these Knights were
hungry for a meal. Unfortunately for the Montour Spartans,
they were on the menu for the Knight's four o'clock feeding.
From the opening kickoff until the final buzzer, Brookline's
defense devoured the Spartans. Montour's highly-touted attack
made only one weak attempt to assert itself early in the game.
After two first downs, Brookline forced them into submission.
For the remainder of the game the fearsome Spartan warriors
were reduced to house-broken pets.
The Knight offense rolled along like the juggernaut it is.
Quarterback Jerrad Tuite has so many guns at his disposal
that he needs certification in the handling of advanced
weaponry. Only friendly-fire, in the form of penalties and
fumbles, can deny this team their right to endzone supremacy.
These Knights are a machine. Coach Donnie has them well-oiled
and tuned almost to perfection. They function so well as one
unit that sometimes individual achievements are dwarfed by
the intensity of the whole. But, there are always exceptions.
Today, Adam Ottaviano played a fantastic game. His sixty-nine
yard touchdown reception from Tuite was as picture perfect as
they come. He recorded twenty of the Knights thirty-eight
points on offense. On defense, his acrobatic one-handed
interception was more awesome than the forty-one yard return
that followed. He was also the deliverer of several vicious
hits that left the Spartans shaken, not stirred. On this day,
Adam Ottaviano was the top dog, and he got the prime cuts.

8-UNDER JV GAME (exhibition game)
BROOKLINE 20 - Montour 8
Scoring Summary:
Cole McMullan 15 run (conversion failed)
Dominic Leonard 28 run (Cole McMullan run)
Cole McMullan 20 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Dominic Leonard, Cole McMullan, Seth Derrick
NOTES: In the morning's opening engagement, the little Knights
took on the little Spartans and came away with a fine comeback
victory. The Spartans gained the early edge and held an 8-0
lead at halftime.
The Knights charged back in the second period, taking command
of the battlefield. Strong running by Dominic Leonard and Cole
McMullan turned the tide. The Brookline defense repulsed all
further Spartan attacks while the offense launched successful
thrusts three times in a row. It was an excellent team effort.
WEEK #7 - October 10, 2009
The West Allegheny Indians went on the warpath. Their target
was McGibbeny Field in Brookline. It was a real bloodbath.
The Knights in shining armor were no match for the red horde.
The Indians pillaged. They plundered. Then they left, just as
silently as they came. We were lucky to escape with our lives.

8-UNDER
West Allegheny 30 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Cole McMullan 31 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Dante Douglas
NOTES: West Allegheny scored on their first three possessions
and took a 24-0 lead into halftime. Another score was negated
by a penalty in the final moments of the half. West Allegheny
totally dominated the half. Brookline fans watched helplessly
as the Knights could do nothing to stem the endless red tide.
The second half was actually a pretty good game, if taken as a
separate contest. The two teams played to a 6-6 tie, complete
with some excellent offensive and defensive drama.
Cole McMullan opened the second half with two fine runs. His
first was to the left for twenty-five yards. It put Brookline
in West Allegheny territory for the first and only time during
the game. McMullan then went right with a thirty-one yard run
to the endzone. The Knights were on the scoreboard!
The Indians followed with a long drive inside the Brookline
ten yard line. The Knight defense got tough and stopped the
West Allegheny surge three yards short of the goal. It was
the only time Brookline kept the Indian offense in check.
The final points came with 1:18 to go in the game. The Indians
marched sixty yards and scored on a twenty yard run. The final
tally read 30-6, but our little Knights put on a good show in
the second frame to salvage some pride and end on a good note.

9-UNDER
West Allegheny 38 - BROOKLINE 16
Scoring Summary:
Cullin Baker 71 run (Darryl Daniels run)
Darryl Daniels 29 run (Cullin Baker run)
NOTES: This was another bad game for the Knights. The Indians
moved the ball at will while the Knights struggled to find any
offensive pulse. West Allegheny scored on their first three
possessions to take an early 22-0 lead. Brookline looked dead.
As the buzzer sounded to end the first quarter, the Knights
showed signs of life. Cullin Baker took a handoff from Brent
Ivory and streaked around the left side. Baker broke free and
led his pursuers on a seventy-one yard race downfield. Baker's
touchdown, followed by Darryl Daniels conversion run, put the
Knights back in the game, down by only fourteen points.
The good feeling didn't last long. West Allegheny scored on
their next two possessions to increase their lead to 38-8,
ending any thought of a potential comeback.
Brookline scored once more in the final minute when Daniels
shook loose a couple defenders and took off on a twenty-nine
yard touchdown run. Baker added the two-point conversion to
set the final tally at 38-16.
Defensively, the Knights did sparkle briefly late in the first
half. The Indians were deep in Brookline territory and moving
steadily onward. On successive plays, first Marshal White,
then Cullin Baker, surged into the West Allegheny backfield.
Both stopped their targets with piercing solo hits. They held
back the red rush long enough for the game clock to intervene.

10-UNDER
West Allegheny 38 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Troy Bryant
NOTES: West Allegheny crushed the Knights in the first half.
The halftime score was 38-0. They dominated both sides of the
line of scrimmage, and their knack for recovering onside kicks
became a persistent source of agony and despair.
The Knight defense was helpless to stop the Indian attack, and
the Brookline offense struggled to move the ball. Quarterback
Jacob Mellon left the game with a possible concussion late in
the first half. Receiver Jake Devers took over at the helm.
As the clock ran down near the end of the game, Devers ripped
off a thirty-five yard run that livened up the Brookline fans.
We send our sincerest well wishes to Jacob Mellon and family,
hoping that he'll be OK and feeling better soon.

11-UNDER
West Allegheny 34 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Bryan Bergener, Amaree Hatcher
Interception: Taylor Thornton
NOTES: Last week we said Brookline was on a roll. Today the
Knights rolled over and played dead. From the opening gate,
they stumbled and bumbled, grumbled and fumbled, and looked
like they were collectively suffering from the seasonal flu.
At halftime, the score was 28-0 and Brookline was bedridden.
There were, however, some rather interesting highlights in
this unexpected visit to the infirmary.
West Allegheny tried seven onside kicks and recovered three.
Over the course of three games, the Indians made good on five
onside kicks. It seemed as if all their kickoffs were executed
in this manner. The guerilla tactic worked effectively, sowing
confusion in the Knights battle line.
In first quarter action, Bryan Bergener recovered an Indian
fumble and returned it ten yards, then fumbled the ball away.
Amaree Hatcher pounced on the hot potato at the West Allegheny
thirty-five yard line. A sixteen yard run by Taylor Thornton
positioned the spud in the Indian redzone. It was Brookline's
high water mark for the day.
A West Allegheny running back opened the second quarter with a
fifty-three yard dash through open ground. Loren Wicks tracked
the runaway and dropped him at the Brookline ten. The play led
to a goal line stand that was the Knight's shining moment.
The score could've been much worse. However, despite the poor
performance, it was just one game. That's the important thing
to remember. Go home, take your medicine, and start preparing
for next week's meeting with Montour. Things will get better.
Sorry to see Dylan DiRenna hobbled by a cracked fibula. Dylan
played a great game last week. Get better soon!

13-UNDER
BROOKLINE W - West Allegheny L (forfeit)
NOTES: The West Allegheny Indians were unable to field a team.
An alarming number of players were suffering from the seasonal
bug that has cut a swath through the midwest. They called off.
Undoubtedly, it is the same strain that affected Coach Joe's
eleven-year olds earlier, so beware. Drink lots of fluids.
Get plenty of sleep. See a doctor if the symptoms persist.
Been there - Done that. It's a mighty nasty bug, but probably
not as nasty as an encounter with Coach Donnie and his Mighty
Knights. Just the thought of that could drive anyone to call
in sick. We extend our best wishes to the Indian players.

8-UNDER JV GAME (exhibition game)
BROOKLINE 14 - West Allegheny 0
Scoring Summary:
Seth Derrick 40 run (Brenton Morefield run)
Nick Roell 25 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Seth Derrick
NOTES: The old adage goes something like this:
Big Things come in Small Packages.
It couldn't have been truer on this chilly Saturday morning.
On a day that would see the older Knights teams get scoured,
skinned and scalped by the West Allegheny Indians, our little
Knights opened the day with a strong 14-0 victory in this JV
exhibition contest.
Thank God for Small Favors.
Seth, Nick, Brenton and the rest of our little ones were the
truly bright spot on this otherwise dismal autumn day.
WEEK #6 - October 3, 2009
Wow! What a day! Three of the first four games were decided on
the final play from scrimmage. It was chock full of big plays!
It was a super-sized stress sandwich, and that doesn't include
the endless SNAFUs encountered at the scorer's table. AWESOME!
In the end, Brookline emerged four-and-one for the series. But
Kudos to the Carlynton Cougars, who kept us on the edge of our
seats for nine hours. These WERE some exciting football games.
**************************************************************
8-UNDER
Carlynton 6 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Ramon White
NOTES: In retrospect, this game seemed a bit like the Cold War
drama, Fail-Safe, starring Henry Fonda. The Soviet Union and
the United States were on equal, yet safe, terms in the atomic
age. A glitch in the system caused a nuclear catastrophy. The
final scene was a blinding light that signaled the end.
Brookline and Carlynton stood toe-to-toe and duked it out for
thirty-two minutes without any definitive result. Carlynton
threatened in the second quarter with a drive to the Brookline
ten yard line. The Knights pushed the Cougars back ten yards.
A fine stop on fourth down by Jayden Payne ended that threat.
In the third quarter, strong running by Ramon White helped the
Knights push deep into Cougar territory. A fumble near the red
zone ended that promising drive. Both teams pushed and pushed
back, until only seconds remained. The ball sat at the Knight
forty-three yard line. Carlynton was in possession.
There was time for one last play in this scoreless contest
before the Dogs of War declared stalemate and sudden death.
The Cougar quarterback took the snap and started to his left.
He cut to the right and the defenders moved to intercept. Then
the buzzer sounded and it seemed as if time stood still, for
everyone except the Cougar runner. He hit the hole and burst
forward to daylight. As he crossed the plane a blinding light
signaled the end for the Brookline Knights.

9-UNDER
BROOKLINE 6 - Carlynton 0 (Overtime)
Scoring Summary:
Brent Ivory 10 run (no conversion attempt)
Fumble Recovery: Joel Wert (2), Bobby Goodnight
NOTES: This game was quite similar to the previous game, only
the blinding light signaled the end for the Carlynton Cougars,
and it had a familiar name, Brent Ivory.
Both teams slugged it out for forty minutes. The pendulum of
momentum swung both ways, but could carry neither opponent to
the endzone. Carlynton threatened in the first half, surging
forward to the Brookline nineteen yard line. The Knights dug
in and pushed them back.
In the second half, Brookline rode the legs of Darryl Daniels
to the Carlynton twenty. A fumble ended that push. The defense
ruled the turf and neither team could muster a score. Time
expired and the game headed into overtime deadlocked at 0-0.
Carlynton won the toss and began their offensive series. The
Knights forced a turnover that was pounced on by Joel Wert and
Bobby Goodnight. The Brookline offense took over and were
forced into a fourth and goal at the ten yard line.
Quarterback Brent Ivory took the snap and bootlegged to the
left. With nowhere to go, he reversed direction and took off
to the right. After traveling sideline-to-sideline and dodging
several defenders, Brent cut towards the endzone. He was met
by a pack of Cougars, but somehow managed to slice his way
into the endzone for the game-winning score.
The Brookline sideline burst into cheers, while the blinding
light that we now call Brent signaled the end for Carlynton.

10-UNDER
BROOKLINE 14 - Carlynton 6
Scoring Summary:
Jake Devers 3 pass from Jacob Mellon (Demetrius Cotton run)
Christian Frazier 18 fumble recovery (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Jake Devers, Christian Frazier
NOTES: The 10-year old Knights put last week's disaster behind
them with a solid performance against a determined Carlynton
Cougar team. When the final buzzer sounded, Brookline had one
for the win column with a 14-6 Triumph of the Tens.
Running back Aaron Owens let everyone know that the Knights
came to play with a couple nice carries on Brookline's first
possession. Although that initial drive ended short of the
goal, it set the tone. The second drive would hit paydirt.
Quarterback Jacob Mellon took charge with runs of twenty-three
and thirteen yards, moving the ball forward to the seven yard
line. Although Mellon fumbled on his second carry, the sure
hands of Jake Devers snatched up the loose ball at the Cougar
three. From there, Mellon connected with Devers for a short
but sweet touchdown reception. A good conversion run by
Demetrius Cotton put the Knights on top, 8-0.
On the Cougars next possession, an errant lateral found it's
way into the hands of Christian Frazier, who gladly returned
the gift eighteen yards for the Knights second score. The
scoreboard at halftime read: Brookline 14 - Carlynton 0.
The Cougars struck midway through the final period. A 35-yard
punt return gave Carlynton great field position at the Knights
twenty-six yard line. From there, the cats clawed their way to
the goal. The drive ended with a one-yard plunge, narrowing
the Brookline lead to eight points. But, eight was enough to
be the final margin of victory for the Green and Black.

BROOKLINE 34 - Carlynton 32 (Overtime)
Scoring Summary:
Dylan DiRenna 8 run (conversion failed)
Taylor Thornton 8 run (conversion failed)
Taylor Thornton 17 pass from Nick Manuel (Nick Manuel run)
Taylor Thornton 12 run (conversion failed)
Taylor Thornton 10 run (Taylor Thornton run)
Interception: Taylor Thornton
NOTES: The Brookline Knights 11-year olds, under the watchful
eye of Coach Joe Nicholas, are on a roll. They are now 4-1 and
own a string of three consecutive wins. In his sixteen years
with the program, the veteran coach can rattle off a long list
of running backs with a talent for finding the endzone. After
Taylor Thornton's four touchdown payday in the Knights 34-32
overtime judgement against Carlynton, Coach Joe may have found
the next name for his list of trusty thoroughbreds.
The game itself was a see-saw struggle, a seemingly endless
series of ups and downs that ended in a 26-26 tie.
The Brookline offense started strong, surging forward to the
Cougar seventeen yard line before fumbling the ball away. On
the Knight's second possession, quarterback Nick Manuel threw
a screen pass to Dylan DiRenna that ended sixty-six yards away
at the Carlynton eight yard line. From there, DiRenna carried
the ball the remaining yards for the game's first score.
The Knights kept pounding away. A forty-nine yard DiRenna run
positioned the Knights deep in Cougar territory once again. An
interception thwarted that opportunity. The fourth possession
saw strong running by Thornton, and a forty-one yard pass play
from Manuel to Loren Wicks that put Brookline back in the red
zone. This time Thornton crossed the plane with an eight yard
touchdown run to increase the Knight lead to 12-0.
Carlynton finally got their offense untangled before the end
of the first half. A thirty-nine yard scoring toss with eight
seconds remaining closed the gap to 12-6. A good stop by Nick
Manuel on the conversion attempt preceded the halftime break.
The second half was a wild and wooly affair. Carlynton struck
first. A forty-seven yard touchdown run evened the tally at
12-12. A seventeen yard scoring toss from Manuel to Thornton,
followed by Manuel's good conversion run, put Brookline back
on top, 20-12.
The Cougars came right back with a fifty yard touchdown pass.
The Knights countered with a twelve yard run by Thornton. The
score now read 26-18, Brookline. With a minute and a half to
go, Carlynton scored once more on a fifty yard run. The good
conversion tied the game at 26-26.
Brookline's offense kept right on shooting from the hip.
Manuel connected with Thornton and Wicks on completions of
twelve and twenty-two yards, pushing to the Cougar twenty
before an interception halted the rush. It wasn't over yet!
With only seconds remaining, a chill came over the Brookline
crowd as Carlynton hauled off with a thirty-seven yard pass
and found themselves near the endzone with one play to go.
The Cougars threw a pass towards the goal, which Thornton
intercepted as the final buzzer sounded. Take a breath.
Overtime! Take another breath.
Carlynton won the toss and scored on their first play, a ten
yard pass. The Cougar conversion attempt was met by a host of
Knights and fell short of the goal. Carlynton had their first
lead of the game, 32-26. Brookline had four downs remaining
to come back and even the score. They needed only one.
On Brookline's first play, Thornton took the handoff and did
what he does best. He found the endzone. The score was now
tied at 32-32. The Knights lined up for the conversion.
Who else? Old reliable. Handoff to Thornton. Score! Victory!

Dominick DelGreco 31 pass from Jerrad Tuite

Adam Tajuddin 11 run (Khalil Sanders run)
Fumble Recovery: Dominick DelGreco, Adam Ottaviano
NOTES: It was slaughter, plain and simple. By halftime the
score was 40-0. The Knights could do no wrong. Whether it be
running the ball, passing, defending or playing special teams,
this Brookline team is simply awesome. They are just grinding
their way through the opposition with uncanny ease and an
unquenchable thirst for destruction.
We are running out of words to accurately describe the force
that is wrapped up in this Green and Black Gridiron Machine.
Today we turn to the word "Juggernaut."
Merriam-Webster defines a Juggernaut as:
- a massive inexorable force, campaign, movement, or object
that crushes whatever is in its path.
That sounds about right.
If anyone is wondering what a gridiron juggernaut looks like,
just stop by McGibbeny Field next Saturday and witness the
wrath of Coach Donnie's Green Machine. These Templar Knights
are so dangerous that they should be required to attach an
FDA approved warning label to their helmets, just to be on
the safe side.

8-UNDER JV GAME (exhibition game)
BROOKLINE 16 - Carlynton 6
Scoring Summary:
Brenton Morefield 25 run (Brenton Morefield run)
Dominic Leonard 35 pass from Nathan Ault (Nathan Ault run)
Interception: Nick Roell
NOTES: Our youngest Knights battled it out with Carlynton's
little Cougars for fifty minutes in this JV contest. Brookline
quarterback Nathan Ault had a fine game, leading the Knights
to a 16-6 victory.
Brookline's Brenton Morefield scored first on a twenty-five
yard scamper, then followed up with a good conversion burst.
The Cougars answered with six points of their own when they
scooped up a fumble and returned it thirty-two yards.
Another promising Knight drive featured a seventeen yard pass
from Ault to Seth Derrick. The drive stalled in the red zone.
At the midpoint of the game, Brookline held an 8-6 edge.
In the second half, Ault connected with Dominic Leonard on a
swing pass that Leonard extended into a thirty-five touchdown
reception. Ault added the two-point conversion run to increase
the Knight lead to 16-6.
This was a REAL good game for our littlest Knights. Way to go!
WEEK #5 - September 26, 2009
8-UNDER
Thomas-Jefferson 6 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Ramon White
NOTES: It was a miserable morning for football. The rain fell
without pause, but the game went on. The first half came down
to a slip-sliding midfield mudbath without much ball movement
on either side of the line.
The second half was much the same. Midway through the third
quarter, a TJ runner broke free from the pack and raced to the
endzone for a score. The Knight defense stopped the conversion
attempt and held the Jags silent for the rest of the game. The
Brookline offense, however, never gained traction and remained
mired in the mud.
**************************************************************
9-UNDER
BROOKLINE 8 - Thomas-Jefferson 0
Scoring Summary:
Darryl Daniels 57 run (Brent Ivory run)
NOTES: The Brookline Knights and the TJ Jaguars battled it out
in the mud for forty minutes. When the final buzzer sounded,
the Knights scraped the sludge from their spikes and went home
to dry after a hard-fought 8-0 victory.
The first half was a defensive gridlock. The Knights offense
moved the ball well despite the poor field conditions, but
could not manage to break free towards the endzone. The tough
Brookline defense dug in and did a fine job containing the TJ
attack. The first half ended without a score.
Finally, in the third quarter, Darryl Daniels broke loose.
Aided by some fine downfield blocking by Lamar Lewis, Daniels
streaked fifty-seven yards for the game's only touchdown.
Quarterback Brent Ivory bulled the ball over the line for the
two-point conversion and an 8-0 Knights lead.
At this point the Brookline defense rose to another level and
completely subdued the TJ attack. One excellent individual
effort stood out late in the game. It one of those Web-Gem
moments that may have saved the Knight victory.
TJ's quarterback launched a perfect pass to an open receiver.
Cornerback DeJon James recovered nicely and extended his reach
just enough to knock down the pass. If caught, it would have
been a sure six points. Way to go, DeJon!
Kudos also to the offensive linemen (Jeremy Jenkins, Zachary
Kulbacki, Randy Roscoe, Will Rupert, Joel Wert) and tight ends
(Branden Wysong, Marshal White). They did a marvelous job in
the trenches controlling the line of scrimmage.

Taylor Thornton 60 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: It was a miserable afternoon. A steady, drenching rain
chilled the bones of all who braved the persistent downpour.
The Brookline Knights 11-year olds, however, shrugged it off
and came together to earn a 12-6 victory over the TJ Jaguars.
In a game fought mostly in the trenches, the Knights struck
first near the ten minute mark. Taylor Thornton broke free and
carried the ball forty yards for the first score. The Jaguars
countered with a touchdown on their next possession to even
the score at 6-6. The score remained deadlocked at halftime.
Both teams slugged it out in the mud during the second half.
Again, Brookline struck first with another long run by Taylor
Thornton, this time covering sixty yards. With a 12-6 lead to
protect, the Knight defense got tough during the final quarter
and shut down the Jags for the remainder of the contest.

Scoring Summary:

Michael Roper 5 run (Adam Tajuddin run)
Dominick DelGreco 47 run (Michael Ignasky run)
Dominick DelGreco 60 pass from Jerrad Tuite

Fumble Recovery: Dominic Amato, Jerrad Tuite
NOTES: On a soggy McGibbeny Field, Coach Donnie and his elder
Knights rained down upon the Thomas-Jefferson Jaguars with
another vivid display of offensive lightning and defensive
thunder. When the storm clouds passed, the Knights had posted
their fourth impressive victory in as many games with a 38-0
tanning of the Jags.
In the first half, the Knights multi-faceted and increasingly
dangerous offense produced four touchdowns. Strong running
by Dominick DelGreco and Michael Ignasky accounted for sixteen
points. Short scoring bursts by Jerrad Tuite and Michael Roper
contributed twelve more. Adam Tajuddin added to the fireworks
with a slick reverse for one of Brookline's three conversions.
On the opposite side of the ball, Brookline's swarming defense
put in another fearsome performance. Sparked by the aggressive
play of Adam Ottaviano and Dominic "Taco" Amato, they totally
throttled the TJ attack. The halftime score: 30-0.
A sixty yard touchdown pass from Tuite to DelGreco opened the
second half in style. Backup quarterback Joey Kalsek then took
over and led the Knights on their sixth march upfield. This
final crusade came to a halt deep in TJ territory.
Now, late in the fourth quarter, the TJ offense managed their
only ball movement of the game. With just one minute to go, a
Jaguar runner broke free and streaked downfield. The shutout
was in jeopardy as a touchdown seemed a certainty. Someone
forgot to inform linebacker Michael Roper.
Michael hit the after-burner and tracked down the runaway Jag
from behind. Then, with thirty seconds remaining and TJ still
scratching at the doorstep, Roper intercepted a pass on the
five yard line to end the protest and preserve the shutout.

St. Louise De Marillac 12 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Taylor Thornton 37 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: The 11-year olds took advantage of the bye week with an
exhibition game against St. Louise De Marillac. Although the
opponents were bigger, out Knights stood tall and played hard.
The Knights defense held St. Louise to two touchdowns.
Thanks to the St. Louise organization for a fine day. Everyone
in attendance received free hamburgers and hot dogs. It was a
perfect autumn afternoon!

8-UNDER
BROOKLINE 14 - South Park 12 (Double Overtime)
Scoring Summary:
Cole McMullan 1 run (conversion failed)
Cole McMullan 6 run (Shebazz Anderson run)
NOTES: Coach Mike Visnich nearly had a cardiac arrest in the
final moments of the second overtime. But, when Jayden Payne
and a host of Knights stopped South Park's final conversion
run, one yard short of the goal line, his heart palpitations
subsided, and his Knights came away with a 14-12 victory over
a stubborn South Park squad.
The game began on an ominous note. South Park scored quickly
on a long touchdown run to take an early 6-0 lead. Afterwards,
the Brookline defense dug in and held their ground. Then, in
the second quarter, the Knights offense came alive. They drove
to the South Park one yard line. On fourth down, Cole McMullan
burst into the endzone to even the score at six apiece.
The second half was a defensive showdown. Fine defensive play
by Gaige Grzelka, Nathan Ault, Shebazz Anderson and Ramon
White kept the South Park offense in check. The Eagle defense
countered by silencing the Knights attack. The buzzer sounded
with the ball stuck near midfield and the score tied, 6-6.
On to overtime!
The first overtime ended with neither team able to muster any
ball movement. In the second overtime, Cole McMullan scored
his second touchdown of the game on a six yard run. Shebazz
Anderson aced the two-point conversion with a drive up the
middle to put Brookline on top 14-6.
South Park answered with a ten yard touchdown pass on their
first play to come within two points. As the Eagles lined up
for their conversion attempt, Coach Mike's chest tightened.
As the ball was snapped, he nearly dropped to his knees. Then
Jayden Payne hit the runner. His teammates swarmed en masse to
the point of contact and the Eagle landed one yard short. The
conversion was no good and the Knight's had their first win!
No third overtime. No heart attack. Just a lot of happy kids,
plenty of happy fans, and one relieved coach.

9-UNDER
BROOKLINE 22 - South Park 6
Scoring Summary:
Darryl Daniels 43 run (conversion failed)
Darryl Daniels 20 run (Brent Ivory run)
Marshal White 18 run (Brent Ivory run)
Interception: Darryl Daniels
NOTES: After two stinging defeats, the 9-year old Knights came
to South Park eager to get onto the winning track. They did
better than that. They manhandled the South Park Eagles and
came away with a 22-6 victory, their first of the season.
On Brookline's opening offense series, speedy Darryl Daniels
found a seam and rushed 43 yards to the endzone, staking the
Knights to a 6-0 lead. In the second quarter, Daniels struck
again with a twenty yard dash, followed by a good conversion
run by quarterback Brent Ivory. The Knights were ahead 14-0,
and they were hungry for more.
In the final moments of the first half, Ivory connected with
Marshal White for a twenty yard reception to place the ball
inside the South Park ten yard line. Brent followed with a
seven yard run to the two. He hurriedly got his team set and
executed a perfect spike with only seconds to go. Ivory then
tried a quarterback sneak, but came up inches short as the
buzzer sounded to end the half.
In the second half, Coach Mike Manuel reached into his bag of
tricks and pulled out a couple of slick gadget plays. A quick,
three-play forty-seven yard drive followed. Lamar Lewis ran a
perfect halfback option, slinging a spiral to Branden Wysong
that covered 18 yards. Then, Darryl Daniels sped around the
right side for eleven more. The third play was a successful
reverse with Daniels handing off to Marshal White, who clung
to the sideline for eighteen yards and a touchdown. Ivory
added a conversion run to increase Brookline's lead to 22-0.
South Park got on the board late in the game, scoring on a one
yard plunge with less than two minutes to play. The drive took
up nearly nine minutes of the fourth quarter, due in large
part to the gritty play of the Knight's second team defense.
The Eagle touchdown brought the final score to 22-6.
Congratulations to the defensive starting eleven, who held
South Park's offense without a first down before retiring to
the sideline at the end of the third quarter. The Knight's
defenders were: Linemen - Joel Wert, Bobby Goodnight and
Anthony Carrington; Ends - Lamar Lewis and Cullin Baker;
Linebackers - Darryl Daniels, Will Rupert, Marshal White
and Brent Ivory; Safeties - Brad Jones and Branden Wysong.
On offense, Daniels finished with over 100 yards rushing.

10-UNDER
BROOKLINE 14 - South Park 6
Scoring Summary:
Demetrius Cotton 7 run (conversion failed)
Anthony Johnson 50 interception return (Demetrius Cotton run)
Interception: Anthony Johnson
Fumble Recovery: Trevor Hazen, Anthony Johnson
NOTES: Coach Darryl Frazier worked his Knights hard at
practice this past week. Like the eight and nine-year olds
before them, the 10-year old Knights came to South Park eager
to put their two previous losses behind them and join their
brothers in the winner's bracket. All the hard work paid off.
The Knights left the South Park Fairgrounds with a 14-6 win.
In the first half, the offense, which had slumbered for the
past two weeks, came alive with a bang. It started with
Demetrius Cotton on the first series. Cotton's legs accounted
for fifty of fifty-five yards, finishing the drive with a
seven yard touchdown run and a 6-0 lead. The defense held on
to the six-point advantage until halftime.
The second half saw less of the offensive fireworks, but the
defense put on quite a show. On the first play of the fourth
quarter, Anthony Johnson intercepted an Eagle pass and took
off on a fifty yard return for a touchdown. It was reminiscent
of James Harrison's Super Bowl XLIII score, as A.J. lumbered
downfield with more determination than speed. Demetrius Cotton
added the two-point conversion to increase the lead to 14-0.
South Park launched their only sustained drive late in the
fourth quarter. A couple nice tackles by Joe Michalski kept
the Eagles from a quick score, but couldn't save the shutout.
South Park finally scored on a four yard run. Anthony Johnson
stopped the conversion attempt with a nice backfield tackle
to hold the final tally at 14-6.
Quarterback Jacob Mellon had a nice game. This is Jacob's
first year leading the offense and he is just beginning to
come into his own. He's a good drop-back passer with nice form
and a quick release. On one play in particular, he executed a
three step drop and threaded the needle with a six yard bullet
to Tyler McGough. It was perfect! This kid has loads of
potential and we look forward to watching his development.
And finally, Happy Birthday to cheerleader Brittany Corbett.

11-UNDER
BROOKLINE 30 - South Park 0
Scoring Summary:
Taylor Thornton 83 pass from Nick Manuel (Nick Manuel run)
Mentchaas Anderson 12 run (Nick Manuel run)
Taylor Thornton 45 pass from Nick Manuel (Dylan DiRenna run)
Nick Manuel 86 run (conversion failed)
Interception: Dylan DiRenna
Fumble Recovery: Shane Holden
NOTES: Coach Joe Nicholas thought he had a quarterback crisis.
His original starter has been sidelined with a broken wrist
and his replacement flew the coup. Little did Joe know that
there was a diamond in the rough, just waiting to be found.
Pint-sized Nick Manuel stepped up and took over the struggling
Knight offense. In his first game as a quarterback, Slick Nick
glimmered like a two-carat rock. Manuel led the offense like
a crafty veteran, completing 5-of-5 passes for 150 yards and
two touchdowns, running for over 100 yards and posting ten
points on the scoreboard. It was a memorable performance.
"The Nick Manuel Variety Show" began innocently enough with a
screen pass to Taylor Thornton that Taylor turned into an
eighty-three yard touchdown. On the conversion attempt, Nick
bumbled the handoff, then recovered to streak around the left
side for two points and an 8-0 lead.
South Park launched a counterattack. An Eagle runner broke
away and headed downfield. A Loren Wicks tackle dropped the
would-be scorer after thirty-two yards. The Eagles pushed the
ball a bit further, to the Brookline five yard line. On first
and goal, a punishing hit by Manuel caused a fumble and Shane
Holden recovered at the Brookline ten.
Nick then combined with Mentchaas Anderson and Taylor Thornton
to push the ball ninety yards for a second Brookline score.
Anderson's twelve yard run on a reverse, followed by Manuel's
conversion run, raised the score to 16-0. With three minutes
to go in the first half, Manuel connected again with Thornton,
this time for a forty-five yard scoring toss. Dylan DiRenna
ran in the conversion for a 24-0 halftime lead.
The second half was more of the same. The defense bent but
didn't break, and Nick Manuel kept churning out highlight reel
moments. After a long South Park drive was extinguished, the
Knights took over on their own fourteen yard line. The Slick
One took the next snap, bootlegged to the right and led the
Eagle defenders on a wild and crazy chase that concluded
eighty-six yards downfield. An exhausted Nick stumbled into
the endzone to bring the Brookline lead to 30-0.
After ending South Park's final drive by nearly intercepting a
fourth down pass, Manuel led Brookline on their final surge.
A forty-two yard touchdown run by Amaree Hatcher was called
back on a holding penalty as time expired. What a great game!
What a great show! So much for the quarterback crisis.
In addition to his exploits on the field, Nick Manuel is also
a top ten nominee for the Sports Soup Quote of Week. Remember,
Nick is new to calling formations in the huddle. After Nick's
second touchdown pass of the day, a slightly bewildered Coach
Joe asked the Slick One what formation he ran. Nick's reply...
"I don't know, but it worked."

13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 40 - South Park 0
Scoring Summary:
Michael Ignasky 7 run (Michael Ignasky run)
Michael Ignasky 8 pass from Jerrad Tuite (Jerrad Tuite run)
Jerrad Tuite 11 run (Connor McGinnis run)
Michael Ignasky 32 pass from Jerrad Tuite (Joey Kalsek run)
Khalil Sanders 13 run (Zacheria Sesay run)
Interception: Malik Petite
NOTES: The elder Knights turned in another totally dominating
performance with a 40-0 thumping of the South Park Eagles.
From the opening kickoff to the final buzzer, this was Knight
football at its best.
Khalil Sanders got things started by taking the opening
kickoff and returning it forty-five yards into South Park
territory. Michael Ignasky capped off the opening drive with
a seven yard touchdown run and a successful conversion.
Brookline then went to the air. Quarterback Jerrad Tuite threw
completions to Sanders, Adam Ottaviano and Adam Tajuddin, then
hooked up with Ignasky for an eight yard touchdown reception.
Tuite's run for the conversion gave the Knights a 16-0 lead.
Jerrad went airmail again on Brookline's third drive, hitting
Ottaviano for fourteen yards, then launching a forty-six yard
bomb to Sanders. After an offsides call advanced the ball to
the South Park eleven, Tuite dashed around the right end and
scored the Knight's third touchdown of the half. Connor
McGinnis ran up the gut for the two-point conversion.
The Knight's fourth touchdown of the first half came on a
thirty-two yard scoring pass from Tuite to Ignasky. After a
good conversion run by Joey Kalsek, Brookline's Best entered
the halftime break sporting a 32-0 lead.
Michael Roper replaced Tuite at quarterback in the second half
and the rout continued. Roper engineered a thirty-seven yard,
ball-control drive that ended with a thirteen yard scoring run
by Sanders. Big Zacheria Sesay powered in for the two-point
conversion. The score now read 40-0, and the Knight's were
still going strong.
South Park began the fourth quarter with their deepest push
into Brookline territory. Malik Petite put an end to that rush
with an endzone interception. Malik returned the ball fifteen
yards to the Brookline eleven. Joey Kalsek now took over as
quarterback and began the Knights sixth march upfield. On a
fourth and twelve, Kalsek connected on a thirty-two yard pass
play with David Suwalski to keep the drive alive.
A turnover two plays later ended the Knights final foray into
South Park turf and kept the score from expanding further. The
final play of the game was a sack by Brendan Cunningham. It
was a fitting end to a stellar performance by the Knights.
Quarterback Jerrad Tuite had a great first half, completing
7-of-8 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. The defense
again played a fantastic game. The special teams also shined,
with Dominick DelGreco's booming kickoffs and good coverage.
If this team can eliminate the silly penalties then the sky
is the limit. Coach Donnie's Green Machine is ready to roll!

WEEK #2 - September 5, 2009
8-UNDER
North Hills 20 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Cole McMullan 60 run (conversion failed)
Interception: Ramon White
NOTES: This was another tough game for our 8-year old Knights,
but the team did show considerable improvement over last week.
The Brookline offense struggled once more and the defense did
their best to stem the red tide. The end result was a 20-6
defeat. There were, however, good signs amidst the carnage.
Shebazz Anderson had a couple good runs and together with
quarterback Aiden Logan connected for the Knight's first pass
reception. Linebacker Ramon White had another good game,
anchoring the defense. Ramon dazzled the crowd with a slick
one-handed interception near the end of the first half.
North Hills had an 8-0 lead at halftime and increased that to
20-0 midway through the fourth quarter. A 60 yard touchdown
run by Cole McMullan late in the final period prevented the
shutout, ending the game on a positive note for Brookline.
**************************************************************
9-UNDER
North Hills 16 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Darryl Daniels
NOTES: The second game of the day was not much better than the
first. The Braves scored twice in the opening half while the
Brookline offense struggled to gain traction. North Hills was
up 16-0 at halftime.
The second half was another futile affair for the offense.
The Knight's defense, led by Darryl Daniels and Cullin Baker,
held the Braves scoreless, but received no support. Daniels'
fumble recovery with two minutes to play set up the Knight's
only offensive surge of the contest. In the waning moments of
the game, Marshal White and Devon James ripped off a couple
nice runs. Time expired with the ball near midfield.
**************************************************************
10-UNDER
North Hills 30 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Anthony Johnson (2)
NOTES: The 10-year olds were scalped by the Red Warriors. Only
penalties and the clock prevented the score from increasing
like the National Debt. North Hills' offense moved up and down
the field at will while the Knights attack stumbled and fell.
The score was 14-0 at halftime and inflated to 30-0 before the
final buzzer sounded.
Every game has it's bright spots. Jacob Mellon connected with
Jake Devers on a nice pass play in the first half. Better yet,
Demetrius Cotton put a crushing hit on a Warrior back near the
North Hills sideline. The beastly blow was a worthy Web-Gem
nominee. Other than that, this game was all North Hills.
**************************************************************
11-UNDER
North Hills 16 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Bryan Bergener, Shane Holden, Taylor Thornton
NOTES: After three ugly defeats, Brookline fans were looking
to the 11-year olds for a little green and black payback. They
looked, but all they found was another black and blue setback.
The game started out promising. The Brookline defense held the
Redskins motionless on their first possession. The Knight's
offense then ran three successful running plays and gained a
first down. There were smiles in the crowd as Brookline was
finally on the move.
On the Knight's fifth play from scrimmage, a fumbled snap was
scooped up by a North Hills defender. The takeaway sparked a
fifty-five yard drive that wiped away the short-lived joy.
The Redskin charge ended with a one yard TD run and an 8-0
lead with 48 seconds to go in the first quarter.
The next thirty minutes of the game were an excercise in
misery management. The Brookline offense could not manage to
gain a first down. The defense barely managed to hold back the
stubborn Redskins. Despite the pain, the score stayed close.
Hope remained as the scoreboard continued to read 8-0 until
the final two minutes of play. That's when Brookline's
slumbering offense turned the ball over for the final time at
their own three yard line. A Redskin touchdown and conversion
with 1:32 left to play gave North Hills a 16-0 victory.
**************************************************************
13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 45 - North Hills 12
Scoring Summary:
Dominick DelGreco tackled runner in endzone - SAFETY
Adam Ottaviano 20 pass from Jerrad Tuite
(Dominick DelGreco kick)
Khalil Sanders 42 pass from Jerrad Tuite
(Dominick DelGreco kick)
Michael Ignasky 82 run (conversion failed)
Michael Ignasky 9 run (Dominick DelGreco kick)
Zacheria Sesay 3 run (Brendan Cunningham run)
Malik Petite 37 run (Brendan Cunningham run)
Fumble Recovery: Michael Ignasky
Interception: Dominick DelGreco
NOTES: Coach Donnie and his 13-year olds could sense the
despair in the hearts of the Brookline faithful and were
determined to right the wrongs of the previous four games.
They did so with a thirst for vengeance. The elder Knights
came out with all their guns blazing. When the smoke cleared
they had all but annihilated the North Hills Chiefs. The
final score read 45-12. It could have been much worse.
The first half seemed close, with the Knights holding a slim
16-12 edge at halftime. Looks can be deceiving. Breakdowns in
pass coverage gave the North Hills quarterback some nice
opportunities and he made the best of them, completing six
passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Brookline quarterback
Jerrad Tuite answered that challenge with two touchdown passes
of his own, a twenty yard toss to tight end Adam Ottaviano and
a 42 yard catch-and-run by Khalil Sanders.
The second half was a good, old-fashioned Brookline scoring
parade, with running back Michael Ignasky churning out two
touchdown runs, the first covering 82 yards. Ignasky finished
the game with well over 100 yards rushing for the second week
in a row. Dominick DelGreco's interception late in the third
period, with the score 29-12, brought in the second-teamers.
Nothing much changed. The scoring parade continued unabated.
Malik Petite, Zacheria Sesay, Joey Kalsek and Michael Roper
engineered two more scoring drives. Big Zach scored the first
touchdown on a three yard transport, literally carrying six
defenders into the endzone. With 1:25 to go in the game,
Petite took off on a 37 yard dash. Brendan Cunningham added
the exclamation points with two good conversion runs.
In addition to some well-deserved payback, Knight fans were
treated to something that they haven't seen in twelve years.
Placekicker Dominick DelGreco split the uprights with three
extra point kicks, a rarity in this age group. The last time
Brookline kicked an extra point was in 1997, when Bruno
DeSimone was "The Man With The Golden Leg." Way to go Dom!

WEEK #1 - August 30, 2009
8-UNDER
Chartiers Valley 12 - BROOKLINE 0
Fumble Recovery: Gaige Grzelka
NOTES: This was a defensive struggle most of the game. The
Knights defenders put up a good fight. Unfortunately, the
only offense recorded on this day belonged to Chartiers
Valley. The Colts struck once in the first half and had a
second score nullified by a penalty. At halftime they led by
a six-point margin.
The Colts threatened to score again on their opening drive
of the second half. Saving tackles by Ramon White and Shebazz
Anderson stopped the ball short of the Brookline twenty yard
line. Gaige Grzelka's fumble recovery on the next play put the
ball back in the hands of the Knights offense.
With the Brookline attack going nowhere fast and the Knight
defense keeping a tight reign on the Colts, the pigskin traded
hands twice deep in Brookline territory. A Colt punt with 27
seconds remaining in the game pinned the Knights back at their
own three yard line.
An untimely Knight fumble was recovered by a Colt defender in
the endzone, giving them a 12-0 lead with only twenty ticks on
the clock. Brookline got off one play and the buzzer sounded.
Kudos to Junior cheerleader coaches Abby Lutton, Meghan Falce,
Taylor Mizgorski and Courtney Watsula. Our cheerleaders put on
a fine halftime show for their opening performance.
**************************************************************
9-UNDER
Chartiers Valley 20 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Darryl Daniels 54 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: This game started off with a bang. On the second play
from scrimmage, fleet-footed Darryl Daniels took the handoff
and scampered 54 yards for a touchdown to give the Knights a
6-0 lead. It was the high point in the contest.
Chartiers Valley answered with a seven minute drive that ended
with a one yard scoring run and a 6-6 tie. A Colt runner
threatened to add to the lead before the end of the half, but
a fine tackle by Cullin Baker lassoed the stray.
The second half was another struggle, with the Colts trying to
stampede and the Knights doing their best to keep them in the
corral. Near the end of the third quarter, one got loose and
found the endzone. Luckily, the long run was called back on a
penalty. Then, two plays later, another got loose, this time
stopped short of the endzone by Cullin Baker.
The Knights defense held fast and forced a 4th and 1. But, an
offsides penalty gave Chartiers Valley a charity first down,
and the Colts made good on the gift. A one yard plunge for a
touchdown and a successful conversion run gave them a 14-6
lead with five minutes to play.
A Brookline fumble on an attempted pass put the ball back in
the Colt's possession. Five plays later they scored on a ten
yard run, bringing the final score to 20-6. A seventeen yard
run by Branden Wysong as time expired gave the Knight's fans
a reason to cheer at the end of the contest.
**************************************************************
10-UNDER
Chartiers Valley 14 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Jake Devers 53 fumble recovery (conversion failed)
Interception: Ryan Hough
Fumble Recovery: Jake Devers, Ron Joseph, Richard Jetter
NOTES: The first half of this game was a defensive lockdown
with the ball changing hands ten times near midfield and a
0-0 score on the board. Highlights from this segment were
ten yard runs by Jacob Mellon and Demetrius Cotton, and an
interception by Ryan Hough.
The second half saw ball movement. The only problem was that
it was the Colt's offense doing all the moving. Chartiers
Valley took the opening kickoff and marched downfield. The
Knight defense got tough late in the drive and forced a 4th
and six. A seventeen yard touchdown toss ended the stalemate
and gave the Colts a 6-0 edge.
An onside kick was recovered by the Colts at midfield. Not to
be detered, Jake Devers stripped the ball from a Colt runner
and sprinted fifty-three yards for a Knight touchdown to tie
the game with nineteen seconds to go in the third quarter.
Chartiers Valley answered with another sustained drive,
covering six minutes and fifty yards. Their surge ended with a
five yard scoring run and a good conversion. With four minutes
to go the Colts now led 14-6.
Brookline had one more chance to get back into the game when
Richard Jetter recovered a Colt fumble. The offense shifted
into reverse and surrendered the ball with only fourteen
seconds to go. Game over.
The Knights defense played tough. Led by Troy Bryant, Anthony
Johnson, Demetrius Cotton, Jacob Mellon and Jim Wheeler. But,
with no offensive support their fine efforts were wasted.

11-UNDER
BROOKLINE 20 - Chartiers Valley 8
Scoring Summary:
Adam Tonry 1 run (conversion failed)
Mentchaas Anderson 29 run (Taylor Thornton run)
Taylor Thornton 42 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Nick Manuel, Tim Mazzarini, Dylan DiRenna
NOTES: After three stinging defeats, the Knight's faithful
were in need of a boost, and they got it from Adam Tonry and
the eleven year olds. Starting his first game at quarterback,
Tonry led the team to a 20-8 victory that put a little swagger
back in the steps of those wearing green and black.
On Brookline's third possession, running back Taylor Thornton
burst loose for a forty yard gain to the Colt twenty yard
line. The drive ended without a score, but it managed to put
the Colts deep in their own territory. A botched snap was
scooped from the turf by Nick Manuel and returned to the five
yard line. From there the Knights pushed the remaining yards
for a score. Tonry found the endzone on a quarterback sneak
with 6:29 to go in the second quarter.
Chartiers Valley responded with a bang. A 53 yard pass play
took the ball to the Knight three yard line. A fine tackle by
Tonry kept the ball in the red zone. Two plays later, a Colt
crossed the plane on a one yard dive. A successful conversion
gave Chartiers Valley an 8-6 lead.
Not to be outdone, the Knights took the kickoff and marched
fifty-five yards for their second score, a 29 yard burst by
Mentchaas Anderson with 27 seconds to go in the half. Taylor
Thornton added two points for a 14-8 Knight's halftime lead.
The second half was all Brookline. Thornton added six more
points with a 42 yard touchdown run (minus one shoe) to bring
his rushing total for the day over the 100 yard mark. Strong
defensive play by Nick Manuel, Amaree Hatcher and Austin
Liebro kept the Colts quiet the entire second half.
One play that stood out was when pint-sized Nick Manuel hit a
big Colt runner head on, stopped him in his tracks, lifted him
from the ground and promptly deposited him back on the playing
surface. It was a hit that would make Jack Lambert proud.

WEEK #1 - August 29, 2009
13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 12 - Bethel Park 0
Scoring Summary:
Khalil Sanders 15 pass from Jerrad Tuite (kick failed)
Michael Ignasky 8 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: The season opener was a good beginning for our elder
Knights. The defense played a strong game, led by linebacker
Khalil Sanders, who contributed over ten tackles and two
sacks. On the other side of the scrimmage line, Sanders stoked
the Knights to a 6-0 halftime lead with his 15 yard touchdown
reception from quarterback Jerrad Tuite in the second quarter.
Running back Michael Ignasky returned to last season's form
with his first 100 yard game of the campaign. Ignasky's eight
yard touchdown run with one minute remaining sealed the
victory for the Knights. Early season mistakes and a couple
dropped passes cost Brookline additional points.
Coach Donnie and the 2009 Knights have added a new dimension
to their game with the acquisition of place kicker Dominick
DelGreco. Other new faces include first-year quarterback
Jerrad Tuite and tight end Adam Ottaviano. Together with a
strong corps of returning veterans and seasoned winners,
these Knights should get stronger as the season progresses.
Welcome to first-year Knights coaches Jerry Tuite, George
DelGreco and his brother, Jungle Jim DelGreco.
