Before the Knights, there was the Brookline Royals

The 1970 Brookline Royals at the
championship game at South Stadium
on December 20, 1970. The Royals
won their third title in four years
by beating 1st Ward, 8-6.

The Brookline Knights organization began in 1974, and since then it has built up a long tradition of football excellence. This season, the Knight's 10-year old team is going for their third title since the nucleus of the team was formed back in 2004. From 1996 through 2000, another talented group of Knights ran off three titles in a five year span.

Today's Knights fans take their football seriously, but Brookline's football mania did not begin with the era of the Brookline Knights. It can be traced back a few years earlier, to the days of the Brookline Royals, who for five years, from 1967 to 1971, were the premier team in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Sandlot Conference.

This talented group of neighborhood athletes set the Brookline standard for winning football championships, taking three out of four titles, beginning with their first season in 1967. The 1970 squad, pictured above, went undefeated, capping off their third and final title run with an 8-6 victory over the 1st Ward Peacemakers at South Stadium on December 20, 1970. The win improved the Royals four year record to 33-1-2, an amazing feat of gridiron excellence. (Dominick Maggs pass from Johnathan Kalsek)
Charlie Mandarino pass from Johnathan Kalsek

	Johnathan Kalsek run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The resurgent Brookline Knights made it all the way to
the division championship game. When they got there they gave
the Southside Sabres one heck of a game. For a team that was
2-4 after six games and on the verge of extinction, these kids
really came on at the end of the season. They may have lost to
the Sabres, but their late-season resurrection was a delight
to watch. Sometimes a team can lose a game, but win respect.
This Knights team earned our respect and that is the true
	measure of a winner.
The Knights came ready to play

	Week #10 - October 27, 2007 - DIVISIONAL SEMI-FINALS

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 20 - Avonworth 6

	Scoring Summary:

David Suwalski pass from Connor McGinnis (conversion failed)
Khalil Sanders run (Michael Roper pass from Connor McGinnis)
	Connor McGinnis run (conversion failed)

NOTE: One thing is for certain. It was cold, and it got
colder as the day went on. Another is that the final score
makes this game look much closer than it really was.
Brookline's defense took charge in the first half and held
the Eagles to six offensive plays, four kickoff returns and
a punt. An interception by Logan Salicce and two stealthy
takeaways by Khalil Sanders stifled the Eagle attack. Each
came on one of Avonworth's six plays, giving the Knights
offense time to hold a scoring clinic.

The Knight's running attack pounded away at the Eagle
defense. Timely receptions by David Suwalski and Joey Kalsek
kept the ball moving in long yardage situations. Quarterback
Connor McGinnis engineered four drives into the red zone,
three of which resulted in touchdowns. The other was stopped
at the Avonworth four yard line by a pass interception with
only twenty seconds to go in the first half. The halftime
	score read: Brookline 20 - Avonworth 0.

The cheerleaders, braving the chilly temperature, did their
best to keep the sidelines warm with their spirit and
enthusiasm. Their halftime show was excellent and they
did bring a little warmth to the hearts of the fans.

The third quarter began with a Knights fumble. This gave
Avonworth the ball in Brookline territory with decent
field position. An Eagle pass brought a first down, then
the game entered the penalty phase. Both teams got jumpy
and four offsides penalties were called, one after another.
The referees moved the ball back and forth in a frustrating
succession. Khalil Sanders, who seemed to be everywhere on
defense, put an end to the silliness with a fourth down sack.

Brookline took over and marched downfield. McGinnis and
Roper combined for 28 yards in three runs to overcome a 1st
and 27 at the Brookline 21. Then the swift feet of Chad
Gregorius thrust the offense forward in bursts of 11, 13 and
ten yards. The drive progressed to the Avonworth five yard
line, where the Knights fell short on fourth and goal.

Avonworth took over with 5:50 to go in the fourth quarter.
On 3rd and 10, a long well-thrown pass found its mark and
the Eagle receiver soared downfield for a 95 yard touchdown
reception. A failed conversion left the score at 20-6.

Avonworth then executed a perfect onside kick and regained
the ball. An offsides penalty against the Knights moved the
stick a little further in the wrong direction. A momentum
	shift? Hardly.

The Knights pushed the Eagles back 17 yards in three plays.
A fourth down pass was broken up by Tyler Parees, putting an
end to any ideas of an Avonworth comeback. The offense
chewed up three of the four remaining minutes and turned
the ball over on downs. A final	Eagle thrust was stopped by
a McGinnis interception at midfield as time expired.
	Game Over! Who's next?

The Knights will move on to play the winner of the North
Hills/Southside game next week. It would be nice to get
another crack at Southside, but does it matter? Not to
	Coach Donnie's Kids!

The late game score marked an end to the Knight's defensive
streak of 35 consecutive shutout quarters. Does it matter?
No. But in our time conscious society, that's 5 hours, 54
minutes and ten seconds to be exact. A marvelous achievement.

	Interception: Connor McGinnis
	Fumble Recovery: Khalil Sanders
	Onside Kick Recovery: Khalil Sanders

	11-UNDER

	Avonworth 24 - BROOKLINE 8

	Scoring Summary:

Ricardo Burch run (Russell Page run)

NOTE: It was still cold, and getting colder.

Avonworth took the opening kickoff and got on the board
quickly with a touchdown run at 7:50 in the first quarter.
A good conversion gave the Eagles an early 8-0 lead. On the
Eagles next possession, a Damel Banks interception gave the
Knights the ball on their own 47 yard line, first and ten.

Ricardo Burch gained 27 yards on the Knight's first play,
then repeated with another 27 yard dash to the endzone three
plays later to close the gap to 8-6. Russell Page converted
to tie the score at 8-all with a minute left to go in the
first quarter. The sun came out and things started getting a
little warmer, if only for a moment.

Avonworth took the ensuing kickoff and marched 54 yards,
capped off with a three yard TD run and a good conversion
with 6:54 remaining in the half. Brookline's offense
sputtered and was forced to punt. A 29 yard boot by Raymont
Green pinned Avonworth back at their own thirteen yard line.

With their backs to their own goal, Avonworth ground out
three first downs and moved into Brookline territory. With
two minutes to go, Blake Drischler made a nice diving pick
of an Eagle pass and gave the offense another chance. A 29
yard pass to Chris Noel moved the ball across midfield but
again the offense sputtered to a halt. At halftime the score
	read: Avonworth 16 - Brookline 8.

With the temperature falling, the frozen cheerleaders thawed
themselves out for their halftime performance, which they
pulled off with style. Guilt has overcome me. I never write
about the cheerleaders. Sorry to Nicole and Sharon and to all
the other coaches, and especially the girls. You've all done
a wonderful job and deserve a big round of applause.

The second half began with the ball see-sawing back and
forth around midfield. This continued for the entire third
quarter. Both teams vied for an edge. Avonworth struck first
with an interception that put the ball at the Brookline 18
yard line. A ten yard TD run with 7:56 remaining in the
fourth quarter sealed the Knight's fate.

The offense could not move the sticks and Avonworth took
possession of the ball for the final time. The Eagles
drove for two first downs and then let the clock expire.

A final thought on the game. Russell Page played a really
good game at quarterback. He threw several slick passes that,
	had they been caught ...

To the rest of the team and the coaches, especially Coach
Mark, great season! It was definitely a change from the 0-9
nightmare Mark endured last year, and if these players
continue to develop and improve like they did this season,
their future as Knights looks bright indeed.

	Interception: Blake Drischler, Damel Banks

	13-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 38 - Carlynton 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Johnathan Kalsek run
(Dominick Maggs pass from Johnathan Kalsek)
Dominick Maggs run (Dominick Maggs pass from Johnathan Kalsek)
	Johnathan Kalsek run (conversion failed)
Johnathan Kalsek punt return (Dominick Maggs run)
Dion Rooney run (Dion Rooney run)

NOTE: Brookline fumbled the ball on their first offensive
possession. That may have been the only thing they did wrong
the whole game, with the exception of the kickoff return in
the second half. But, who's perfect?

Something has happened to this team. At this critical point
in the season, they have found the two intangibles that talent
	alone can not win without.

The Brookline Knights have found confidence and leadership.

The defense held Carlynton back on their first possession and
gave the ball back to the offense. A 60 yard drive commenced,
with Johnathan Kalsek dashing the final 12 yards to the
endzone on a sweep right. Kalsek tossed to Dominick Maggs for
the two point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

John Forrester, whose booming kickoffs kept the Cougars stuck
in poor field position most of the day, deposited this one on
the Cougar one yard line. Carlynton's offense went four and
out, then the Knights offense tried without success. A fourth
down stop gave the Cougars possession at their 17 yard line.

Carlynton moved the ball forward nine yards, then gambled on
4th and one. They were stopped cold. The referees initially
signalled a 1st down for Carlynton, but after strenuous
objections from Coach Brian, a measurement showed that the
defense had held. 1st and ten, Brookline ball!

The Knights offense took over and covered the distance to the
goal before time expired in the half. Maggs crossed the line
for the score with 37 seconds to go on a two-yard run.
Dominick then caught a Kalsek pass for the conversion and a
	16-0 halftime lead.

The second half began with Carlynton taking the opening
kickoff and returning it for a quick touchdown. Charlie
Mandarino returned the enusing kickoff to midfield. After a
failed attempt by the Knights on fourth down, Carlynton took
over. The Knight's defense pushed them back into a 4th and 23.
The Cougars gambled again and tried a fake punt. The attempted
pass was broken up by Jacob Lowden. The Knights took over in
good field position on the Carlynton 36 yard line.

Johnathan Kalsek scored his second TD of the day with a 27
yard run, giving the Knights a 22-6 lead with 5:28 left in the
third quarter. Another booming kickoff by Forrester put
Carlynton back at their own five yard line. The defense pushed
them back to the one. Carlynton's punt went straight into the
waiting arms of the ever-present Johnathan Kalsek, who brought
it back 10 yards for his third score of the afternoon. Another
Maggs conversion put the score at: Brookline 30 - Carlynton 6.

The scoring parade was not over. The fourth quarter saw Dion
Rooney score six on a ten yard run, then ace the conversion
for another two points. The clock ticked down to zero and the
resurgent Knights will advance another round to the SSYFL NFC
	Division Championship game.

	Week #9 - October 20/21, 2007 - DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS

	8-UNDER

	Char Valley 8 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: The season is over for the little ones, but winning
is not always totally dependant on the outcome of a game.
Sometimes winning is what we feel in our hearts and minds.
Our littlest Knights had a good season, and they should be
proud of their accomplishments. The spirit and dedication
of the players, the coaches and the cheerleaders made this
	a wonderful and memorable year.

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	Char Valley 12 - BROOKLINE 8

	Scoring Summary:

Taylor Thornton kickoff return (Taylor Thornton run)

NOTE: The first half was a tight defensive struggle. Neither
team could move the sticks effectively. One Colt runner did
break free, however, for a long 60 yard TD pass to give Char
Valley a 6-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter.

With the second quarter winding down, Dalton Link recovered
a fumble at the Knight's 35 and the slumbering offense began
to rumble. Three first downs later the ball was on the CV25,
but unfortunately the clock wound down to halftime.

The Knights picked up where they left off on the ensuing
kickoff. Taylor Thornton took the ball, found an opening,
and sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown. Thornton put the
Knights ahead 8-6 with a run for the two point conversion.

Char Valley went nowhere on their next possession, stopped
cold by a Dylan DiRenna sack that forced a punt. The Knights
got the ball back near midfield, but an untimely fumble gave
the ball back to the Colts in Brookline territory at the
	45 yard line.

The Colts offense took charge and mounted a 12 play drive
that chewed up the clock. A pass interference call in the
endzone gave Char Valley a 1st and goal at the one. With
their backs to the wall, the Knights front line stopped
the next play for a loss of one. The Colts then punched it
into the endzone for the go ahead score. A failed conversion
left the score 12-8 with a little over six minutes remaining.

The Knight's offense was stopped on their next possession,
but a 38 yard punt by Zach Wagner put the Colts deep in their
own territory. The defense stepped up and kept things alive
by pushing the Colts back to their own 16 yard line. A fourth
down punt netted only 3 yards, giving the Knights one last
chance with 19 yards seperating themselves from victory.
There was 2:20 left on the clock.

A fumble at the 15 yard line was recovered by Char Valley.
The Colts ran out the remaining minute and moved on to the
next round. The defending Division champion Knights season
	came to a close.

To Coach Mike Manuel, his staff and especially the players,
thank you all for a great season, full of excitement and
good times. Sure, there were some difficult moments, but
when the healing power of time works its magic, we will all
look back on this year with fond memories.

I remember watching Tony Dorsett gain 303 yards versus
Notre Dame back in 1976. Now I can say that I saw Taylor
Thornton run for over 300 yards versus Montour in 2007.
That is just one of the many moments I will remember.

	Fumble Recovery: Dalton Link

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 28 - Carlynton 6

	Scoring Summary:

Joey Kalsek pass from Connor McGinnis
(David Suwalski pass from Connor McGinnis)
	Khalil Sanders run (conversion failed)
Michael Roper run (Connor McGinnis run)
	Zach McGrail run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Another dominant performance by Coach Donnie's Kids.
Things started off good for Carlynton. They won the coin toss.
After that, things began to spiral downwards. On the Cougars
first possession, Michael Roper promptly grabbed an errant
pass. Roper's theft set up Connor McGinnis' 21 yard scoring
toss to Joey Kalsek, with a followup to David Suwalski for
	the conversion.

On the Knights second possession, Khalil Sanders found a
crease, cut downfield and turned on the jets for a 40 yard
TD run. The ensuing kickoff got loose and was picked up by
Kalsek, setting up another Knights drive. Roper scored the
third Brookline TD with a 10 yard run around the right side.
The halftime score was: Knights 22 - Cougars 0.

The second half began where the first left off. Zach McGrail
kept the Knight's opening drive alive with a timely fumble
recovery at the Cougar 44 yard line. Two plays later, McGrail
seized upon the opportunity he created. Zach burst through
the line of scrimmage and cruised 35 yards to the goal line
for the Knight's fourth TD, and a 28-0 lead.

At 8:27 in the fourth quarter, a Cougar defender took
control of a Knight's fumble and sprinted downfield. Thirty
yards later the shutout was over. With 4:48 to go in the game
Chad Gregorius found the endzone after a 28 yard chase, but
the late score was nullified by a penalty. The defense put
the Cougars back in the cage and when the gatekeeper fastened
the lock, the final score read: Knights 28 - Cougars 6

Next week, the Knights will play the winner of the Avonworth-
Chartiers Valley game in the Divisional Semi-Finals.

Kudos to Martino Stein for delivering a crunching hit on
the Cougar quarterback for a third quarter sack. Martino
burst through the middle of the line and just leveled him.
The shockwave could be felt on the sideline. Way to go,
Martino! It was a classic Chris Berman ESPN WebGem moment.

For those who believe in superstition, read no more.

Never in the 34 year history of the Knights franchise has a
defense held its opponents without a score for an entire
season. We could be watching history in the making. If you
think you've just been jinxed, cut and paste this article
and email it to 10 people. You will be granted peace of mind.
	GO KNIGHTS!!!

and finally ... for the season (so far) the score reads:

	BROOKLINE 246 - Opponents 8

	Interception: Michael Roper
Fumble Recovery: Joey Kalsek, Zach McGrail

NOTE: I missed this game and now wish I could have stayed.
The Brookline offense, and the defense, ran wild in the
first half. Any time Angello Madison puts his stamp on the
endzone turf and gives us that mile-wide smile, things are
looking rosy. Dominic Amato and Tyler Armstrong also got to
do their own dance with the endzone grass for the first time.
Let's keep this "dance with the stars" going next week.

	Interception: Blake Drischler (2)

Zac Born run (Johnathan Kalsek run)
	Dion Rooney run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Confidence can be a remarkable weapon. A great day
for both the Knights offense and defense. Let's keep this
momentum going for next week's game against the Cougars!!!
It's good to see the offense starting to click on all
cylinders. It couldn't have come at a better time.

Thank you to Coach Brian for remembering the linescore.

	8-UNDER JV GAME

	BROOKLINE 8 - Montour 0

	* Exhibition Game - Does not count towards record *

	Scoring Summary:

Richard Jetter run (Brent Ivory run)

NOTE: The game's only score was set up by a 38 yard run
by Brent Ivory into the Montour red zone with four seconds
remaining in the first half. Richard Jetter went around the
left side for the touchdown as the half expired.

	**************************************************************

	8-UNDER

	Montour 18 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: Montour scored on their first possession of the first
half and repeated on their first possession of the second
half. The Knights could not manage to get any offense going.
Two fumble recoveries by Christian Frazier in the second
half kept things from getting out of control. A late game
interception return by Montour put the game out of reach.
The Brookline offense came alive on their last possession
as Brent Ivory ran for 30 yards, followed by runs of 14 and
17 yards by Christian Frazier, but the game clock expired on
	Frazier's final run.

	Fumble Recovery: Christian Frazier (2)

	9-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 36 - Montour 16

	Scoring Summary:

	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Dylan DiRenna run (conversion failed)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Cody Cerminara run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The Knights offense rode Taylor Thornton's legs to an
18-0 halftime lead. Thornton ran for over 180 yards in the
first half alone! Taylor struck again in the third quarter
to stake the Knights to a 24-0 lead, then Montour scored
two quick TD's to cut the lead to 24-16. Having already
accumulated over 200 yards rushing, Thornton answered again
with a 60 yard TD run to put the Knights up for good at
30-16. Cody Cerminara's 50 yard TD run late in the game was
the icing on the cake. Great game for the Knights, who ran
wild on offense and played excellent defense.

	Onside Kick Recovery: Adam Tonry

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 52 - Montour 0

	Scoring Summary:

Connor McGinnis run (Joey Kalsek run)
Connor McGinnis run (Malik Petite pass from Connor McGinnis)
Zach McGrail pass from Connor McGinnis (conversion failed)
Michael Roper pass from Connor McGinnis (Michael Roper run)
Chad Gregorius run (Malik Petite run)
	Chad Gregorius run (conversion failed)
Tony Manuel interception return (Tony Manuel run)

NOTE: The Knights offense went to the air, with chilling
results for the Spartans. Connor McGinnis lit up the
airwaves, connecting with David Suwalski, Michael Roper,
Joey Kalsek, Zach McGrail and Malik Petite in a well-executed
passing attack. Several other passes were right on target,
but the receivers were so wide open that they did their best
Clifford Franklin imitation and couldn't catch the ball.
The final score could have been 70-0. What was even more
chilly was that the defense held the Spartans to negative
yardage for the game, extending their defensive shutout
streak to 32 quarters (the entire regular season)!

	Interception: Tony Manuel (2)
Fumble Recovery: Malik Petite, Khalil Sanders

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	Montour 22 - BROOKLINE 12

	Scoring Summary:

	Russell Page run (conversion failed)
	Ricardo Burch run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Montour scored on their first possession, then the
Knights mounted their own long drive, which was stopped at
the one inch line. After a Montour punt on their second
possession, the Knights drove 48 yards for a touchdown,
capped off by Russell Page's two yard plunge. A failed
conversion left the Knights down 8-6 at halftime.

Montour scored again on their first possession of the second
half. Brookline got the ball back and went four and out.
Montour fumbled on their second possession of the half,
recovered by Blake Drischler at the Knight's 43 yard line.
Ricardo Burch turned the takeaway into six quick points with
a 57 yard dash down the right sideline for a touchdown.
Again, the Knights failed to convert and the score read
	Montour 14 - Brookline 12.

With the game in their reach, the Knights defense bent,
then broke with a roughing the passer penalty that gave
the Montour offense new life and a first down at the
Knights 25. Four plays later, Montour scored their third
touchdown of the game and aced the conversion to take
an overwhelming 22-12 lead with only a minute to go.

	Interception: Blake Drischler
	Fumble Recovery: Blake Drischler

	**************************************************************

	13-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 32 - Montour 8

	Scoring Summary:

	Johnathan Kalsek run
(Charlie Mandarino pass from Johnathan Kalsek)
Patrick Morgan interception return (Zac Born run)
Ryan Mandarino interception return (Zac Born run)
	Jacob Lowden interception return
(Anthony Raymond pass from Johnathan Kalsek)

NOTE: The Knights offense seemed to come out of its malaise
of late, working the ball both on the ground and in the air.
But, in this game, it was the defense that drove home the
dagger, scoring on three interception returns to stymie the
Spartans and bring some well-deserved cheers from their fans.
The defense played such a run and shoot game that they
managed to outscore their own offense by a total of 18-14.
This is the kind of game the Knights needed heading into the
playoffs. We all hope the momentum carries over. Confidence!

Interceptions: Dominick Maggs, Patrick Morgan, Jacob Lowden,
		Ryan Mandarino.

	WEEK #7 - October 6, 2007

	8-UNDER

	North Hills 6 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: The first half was a scoreless tie. The North Hills
offense had two good drives but were stopped by	the Knights
defense each time. The Knight's offense failed to move the
sticks on their three series. North Hills opened the second
half with a quick first down, then struck with a 43 yard
TD run to take a 6-0 lead. The Knight's countered with a
40 yard pass from Tyler LaRocca to Tyler Gettings, who was
chased down at the North Hills 16. The offense moved four
more yards before a penalty ended their only promising drive.
The game then entered defensive gridlock until the clock
signalled the end of the game.

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	North Hills 28 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: The North Hills offense moved the ball and the
Knights did not. The first down tally accurately
reflected the final score. North Hills moved the sticks
ten times. The Knights moved them once. North Hills
turnovers kept the game from becoming a real blowout.

Fumble Recovery: Taylor Thornton, Nick Manuel, Corey Bogaski.
	Interception: Zach Wagner.

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 8 - North Hills 0

	Scoring Summary:

Connor McGinnis run (David Suwalski pass from Connor McGinnis)

NOTE: In a rematch of last season's Super Bowl, the Knights
again prevailed over a tough North Hills team. The game was
decided on two possesions. In the second quarter, the
Knight's offense found their backs to the wall. A botched
handoff, recovered by Michael Roper, and a 15 yard penalty
gave the Knights a 4th and 25 from their own 26 yard line.

The Knights went for it on fourth down, and Connor McGinnis
hooked up with David Suwalski for a 34 yard reception. With
the ball now in North Hills territory, the Knights went to
the ground. McGinnis, Roper and	Zach McGrail pounded out
three more first downs to the North Hills two yard line.
McGinnis capped off the successful drive with QB sneak for
the game's only touchdown. A successful conversion pass to
Suwalski gave the Knights a 8-0 lead to end the half.

In the second half, North Hills consistently began their
possessions in Brookline territory, but could not manage
to move the ball with the same consistency. Stingy defense
and timely takeaways by Martino Stein and Tyler Parees kept
the North Hills offense frustrated. One promising third
quarter drive by was stopped at the Brookline 14 yard line
	with a critical 4th and 1 stop. DEE-FENCE!!!

This game was reminiscent of the classic Packers-Bears games
of yesteryear. Both teams just pounded away at each other up
the gut. It was old-fashioned grind-it-out football. The
Knights prevailed, but this was a fine game by both teams.

The Knights defense extended its shutout streak to
28 quarters. What an incredible accomplishment. Go Knights!

Fumble Recovery: Martino Stein, Michael Roper.
	Interception: Joey Kalsek, Tyler Parees.

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	North Hills 18 - BROOKLINE 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Ricardo Burch run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Brookline's offense was held powerless by a tough
North Hills defense, and the Knight's defense had trouble
containing a potent North Hills offense. Blake Drischler's
fumble recovery on the one yard line in the second quarter
kept North Hills from putting up a fourth first half TD.

The second half wasn't much better as the North Hills
offense seemed to move the ball at will. Then, as the clock
wound down inside the final minute, Brookline's fortunes
changed. Raymond Green picked off a North Hills pass at the
Brookline 19 yard line. With 45 ticks remaining, Ricardo
Burch found daylight and ran 67 yards for a Brookline score
to end the game on a good note.

Fumble Recovery: Blake Drischler, Dominic Amato.
	Interception: Raymond Green.
	Blocked Punt: Angello Madison.

	**************************************************************

	13-UNDER

	North Hills 8 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: The game began with a flurry of offense. Brookline
moved the sticks twice on their first possession before
yielding. The Indians countered by moving them five times
on their first series, capped off by a short touchdown run.
The game then entered defensive gridlock. The Knight's
defense played a good game, holding North Hills to only
eight points, but the offense couldn't move the ball.

	Scoring Summary:

Christian Frazier run (Ronnie Dunlap run)
Chadric Anderson run (Tyler LaRocca run)
Chadric Anderson run (Christian Frazier run)
	Aaron Owens run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The Knights offense punched it up the middle with
much success. A good day for Tyler LaRocca and the rest
of the Knight's offensive line. Keep up the good work!

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 20 - Avonworth 0

	Scoring Summary:

Taylor Thornton run (Cody Cerminara run)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Taylor Thornton again ran for well over
150 yards. His three touchdown runs went for
35, 25 and 50 yards, respectively. Go Taylor!

Fumble Recovery: Dalton Link, Austin Liebro, Corey Bogaski.

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 18 - Avonworth 0

	Scoring Summary:

	Michael Roper run (conversion failed)
	Michael Roper run (conversion failed)
	Khalil Sanders run (conversion failed)

NOTE: With Connor McGinnis on the disabled list, Michael
Roper stepped up and led the Knights offense, scoring on
a sweep and then punching one up the middle on a QB sneak.
Another fine defensive performance, extending the
defense's streak of shutout quarters to 24 for the season.

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 12 - Avonworth 8

	Scoring Summary:

Ricardo Burch fumble recovery (conversion failed)
Ricardo Burch fumble recovery (conversion failed)

NOTE: Ricardo Burch did what he does best. He found new and
exciting ways to score touchdowns. Otherwise, this was a
defensive struggle without much offensive drama.

	WEEK #5 - September 22, 2007

	8-UNDER

	Southside 34 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: This was not a good way to start the day. The Sabres
took control early and held on for thirty-six minutes.
Then the Knights offense began to stir. Brent Ivory made a
couple good runs for first downs and brought a smile to the
faces of the Knight's fans. A fumble ended the drive with
one minute to go in the game. It was that kind of game.

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 12 - Southside 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)

NOTE: This might take a while, because this was a fantastic
football game by both teams. The Knights and Sabres dueled
on equal terms, each chewing up the clock with long drives.
The Knights offense found a way	into the endzone. The Knights
defense responded by finding ways to keep the Sabres out.

The duel started when the Knights took the opening kickoff
and drove 52 yards, capped off by Taylor Thornton's 24 yard
dash through the heart of the Sabre's defense. The drive
chewed up five minutes. The Sabres responded with a seven
minute drive of their own that ended with a crucial 4th down
	stop at the Brookline ten.

The Knights then rode Thornton's legs for seven minutes and
a couple first downs before turning the ball over on downs
with 35 seconds to go in the half. A Sabre back found a hole
and bolted away for a 43 yard TD run with only 14 seconds to
go, but the play was called back on a holding penalty. A last
second pass reception fell short of the endzone and time
ran out in the half. The Knights led 6-0.

Southside took the second half kickoff and went on a seven
minute assault that was beat back when Dalton Link recovered
a Sabre fumble. The Knights offense stalled and the Sabres
took over at the Brookline 31 yard line. They sped downfield
and got inside the Brookline ten. Corey Bogaski intercepted
a Sabre pass at the three to deny a score.

A few plays later, speedy Taylor Thornton exploded around the
left side and scampered 79 yards for a touchdown and a 12-0
Knights lead with 6:35 to go. The Sabres failed on their next
possession, then got one final chance with 21 seconds to go.
An 80 yard TD reception spoiled the Knights shutout bid, but
gave a worthy opponent a reason to smile a little in the face
	of defeat.

Taylor Thornton ended with over	150 yards rushing for the day.

Fumble Recovery: Dalton Link, Adam Tonry.
	Interceptions: Corey Bogaski.

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

	Southside 2 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: It may not have ended the way the	previous game did, but
this game was no less exciting. It was a hard fought contest
from beginning to end. It's too bad there had to be a winner
and loser. The 2-0 score says this game was as equal as it
	could have been.

This was a contest of wills between opposing defenses. For
three and a half quarters, the two high-octane offenses were
held powerless. Southside did mount one fair drive into
Brookline territory, but it ended in denial thanks to a Julius
Noel interception at the 18 yard line. Unfortunately, the
Knights fell into a trap. Deep in their own territory, the
offense sputtered into reverse and found itself cornered in
its own endzone by a swarm of Sabres. The safety ended the
scoreless game. When the battle was over, two points were all
that seperated these two excellent football teams.

Our thoughts are with Connor McGinnis, who left the field
injured in the second quarter. We were relieved to see him
	return later in the day.

	Interceptions: Julius Noel

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	Southside 20 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: Actually, this was another pretty good game for the
defensive minded, well at least it was for the first
twenty-six minutes. The Sabres ended a scoreless battle with
3:15 to go in the 3rd quarter by scoring on three consecutive
possessions and coasting in with a 20-0 victory. Up to that
point in the game the Knights defense held a strong Sabre
offense in check, thanks in large part to Angello Madison's
	two first half fumble recoveries.

	Fumble Recovery: Angello Madison (2).

	**************************************************************

	13-UNDER

	Southside 44 - BROOKLINE 12

	Scoring Summary:

	Nick Sywyj run (conversion failed)
	Dion Rooney run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The Sabres dominated the game. Things can only get
	better. Consider that a positive.

	Fumble Recovery: Dominick Maggs.
	Anthony Raymond recovered on-side kick.

	WEEK #4 - September 15, 2007

	8-UNDER

	Thomas-Jefferson 14 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: TJ took a 14-0 lead into halftime	and never really
looked back. After that, the Knights fought them to a
standstill. The defense made a couple mistakes but played
a pretty good game. The offense kept trying but always
seemed one good block away from getting a runner loose.

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	Thomas-Jefferson 14 - BROOKLINE 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Joey Shulik run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The game started off great with Nick Manuel returning
the opening kickoff to the one yard line and Joey Shulik
punching it in for a 6-0 lead. TJ answered with two quick
scores and then the game entered a deadlock. The Knights
defense played hard and kept the game within reach, but the
offense couldn't get their gears in motion.

	Interceptions: Zach Wagner.
	Fumble Recovery: Mark Roell (2)

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 38 - Thomas-Jefferson 0

	Scoring Summary:

	Connor McGinnis run (conversion failed)
Connor McGinnis run (Khalil Sanders run)
Khalil Sanders pass from Connor McGinnis (Michael Roper run)
Michael Roper run (Zach McGrail run)
Malik Petite pass from Tony Manuel (Tyler Parees run)

NOTE: Another display of dominance. Like Ted Nugent with an
appetite, they showed their keen interest in hunting for
sustenance. They stalked the Jaguars, slaughtered them in
the trenches, then feasted in a frenzy. Connor and Khalil
had another productive day putting points on the board.
Michael Roper finally broke free for a long TD run, and Tony
Manuel matched Connor with a touchdown pass apiece. Tony
also had a nice run for a touchdown, but alas it was called
	back on a penalty.

	Fumble Recovery: Malik Petite.

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 16 - Thomas-Jefferson 0

	Scoring Summary:

Christopher Noel pass from Russell Page (Domonique Betton run)
Domonique Betton run (Russell Page run)

NOTE: Another excellent outing from Coach Jester's upstarts.
These kids are playing some good football on both sides of
the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Russell Page had another
solid game, hooking up with Chris Noel for a couple fine
catches, including a touchdown. Ricardo Burch and Domonique
Betton ground out some tough yards from the backfield and
combined for three takeaways on defense. Noel dazzled the
crowd when he hauled in a webgem one-handed reception while
	falling backwards, ala-Lynn Swann.

Interceptions: Ricardo Burch and Domonique Betton.
	Fumble Recovery: Domonique Betton.

	**************************************************************

	13-UNDER

	Thomas-Jefferson 36 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: After four games doing the scoreboard, the fifth seemed
like a blur of referee hand signals and Knights on black
horses chasing Jaguars into the endzone. Our Knights did
mount one nice drive towards the TJ endzone early in the
second quarter, but came up short. These Knights need to
sharpen their blades for next week's duel with the Sabres.
The halftime show was pretty cool. The cheerleaders added
this lift-double flip thing to their routine that they pulled
	off exquisitely. Go girls!

	Fumble Recovery: Ryan Mandarino.

	WEEK #3 - September 8, 2007

	8-UNDER

	Brentwood 12 - BROOKLINE 8

	Scoring Summary:

Aaron Owens run (Chadric Anderson run)

NOTE: This was a close game until the end of the fourth
quarter. The Knights held an 8-6 lead but couldn't hold
	back the Duke's final drive.

	9-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 44 - Brentwood 6

Joey Shulik run (Corey Bogaski run)
Taylor Thornton run (Joey Shulik run)
Nick Manuel kickoff return (conversion failed)
	Man Anderson run (conversion failed)

NOTE: I missed this game but heard it was quite a blowout.
A big day for the offense!

Interceptions: Zach Wagner and Taylor Thornton.

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 38 - Brentwood 0

	Scoring Summary:

Connor McGinnis run (Joey Kalsek run)
Khalil Sanders run (Joey Kalsek run)
Zach McGrail run (Joey Kalsek run)
	Tyler Parees run (conversion failed)
Malik Petite run (Tony Manuel run)

NOTE: After the first quarter the score read:
	Brookline 30 - Brentwood 0.
	Enough said.

Interceptions: Logan Salicce and Zach McGrail.

	**************************************************************

	11-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 20 - Brentwood 16

	Scoring Summary:

Ricardo Burch kickoff return (conversion failed)
Ricardo Burch fumble recovery (Will Dean fumble recovery)
	Ricardo Burch run (conversion failed)

NOTE: The first half could aptly be titled "The Ricardo
Burch Show". He returned the opening kickoff and just kept
finding ways to score throughout the first twenty minutes.
A fourth long touchdown run was called back on a penalty.
The second half was somewhat different. The offense stalled
and the Dukes fought back. A late game defensive stop by
the Knights saved the day and sealed the win.

	**************************************************************

	13-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 36 - Brentwood 6

	Scoring Summary:

	Johnathan Kalsek run (conversion failed)
Anthony Raymond pass from Dominick Maggs (conversion failed)
Anthony Raymond pass from Johnathan Kalsek (Johnathan Kalsek run)
Johnathan Kalsek run (Johnathan Kalsek run)
Dion Rooney run (John Forrester pass from Johnathan Kalsek)

NOTE: The Knights offense woke up. Johnathan Kalsek led the
Knights on a scoring spree with two running touchdowns and
several passes to Anthony Raymond that lit up the airwaves.
The Knights offense also unveiled a new	weapon, Dominick
"Slash" Maggs, who rushed, passed and crunched the Duke's
enthusiasm from both sides of the line. Great game!

	WEEK #2 - September 1, 2007

	8-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 8 - Carlynton 6 (OT)

	Scoring Summary:

Christian Frazier run (Aaron Owens run)

NOTE: All defense until the last 10 minutes. Great runs up
the middle by Christian Frazier and Aaron Owens, and a fine
defensive stop on the one yard line to stop the Carlynton
conversion attempt and seal the victory.

	**************************************************************

	9-UNDER

	Carlynton 28 - BROOKLINE 14

	Scoring Summary:

	Taylor Thornton run (conversion failed)
Nick Manuel run (Austin Liebro run)

NOTE: The young ones felt the sting of defeat, but they
didn't quit. They kept fighting and ended the game on a
positive note when Nick Manuel and Austin Liebro found the
endzone in the final seconds. Our thoughts are with Loren
Wicks and we pray for his speedy recovery.

	**************************************************************

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 30 - Carlynton 0

	Scoring Summary:

Connor McGinnis run (Khalil Sanders pass from Connor McGinnis)
Connor McGinnis run (Joey Kalsek run)
Khalil Sanders run (Connor McGinnis run)
David Suwalski pass from Connor McGinnis (conversion failed)

NOTE: This team is very good. Connor and Khalil have been
lighting up the scoreboard, with quite a supporting cast,
and a very stingy defense that dominates opponents. One
Cougar almost got away, but Khalil had the angle and ran
him down, making a fine tackle along the sideline.

	11-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 42 - Carlynton 6

	Scoring Summary:

Ricardo Burch run (Domonique Betton run)
Domonique Betton run (Ricardo Burch run)
Ricardo Burch run (Domonique Betton run)
	Damel Banks run (conversion failed)
Will Dean pass from Russell Page (conversion failed)
	Jacob Elk run (conversion failed)

NOTE: Quite a dominating performance from top to bottom,
just like the game before. Ricardo Burch and Domonique
Betton put on a scoring clinic in the first half and the
team coasted from then on. Good defense, too.

	13-UNDER

	Carlynton 34 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTE: The older Cougars took revenge for the two previous
poundings. Johnathan Kalsek showed some nice moves, but
couldn't get free. Maybe next time.

Become a Volunteer - It's Time Well Spent!

We're always looking for help
with the preparation of the burgers
and hot dogs. Gotta keep the kids fed.

PARENTS! ... Please help out
with the concession stand duties
when called upon. Lisa doesn't
just seem to work non-stop, she
does work non-stop. So feel free
to stop by the stand and see if
she needs some assistance. It's
worth an hour of your time to
help raise money for the kids.

The Maiorano's, Steve and Leslie, are
always doing something. Here, Steve
stokes up the Event Grill while Leslie
helps keep the refreshments flowing
in the concession stand. THANKS!!!

Clint Burton and Mike Schweinberg man
the sticks. Next time the announcer calls
for someone to work the sticks, GO FOR IT!
It's a great place to watch the action unfold.

This Motley looking Crue is Adam Salicce
and Sean McGrail. Adam is our official
soundman and announcer, the John Madden
of Brookline Knights football. Sean keeps
the clock ticking on the scoreboard.

SPECIAL THANKS to our many volunteers, without whose
dedication and hard work our young Knights could never be.
