Elva McGibbeny * * Who Were The Brookline Quaills? * The Brookline Quaills were formed in 1968 and played only one year in the Pittsburgh Sandlot Metropolitan Conference. They were sponsored by Sam and "Boots" Bryen, owners of Quaill's Cleaners. This being the days of neighborhood rivalries, the "East" Brookline Quaills primary foes were the "West" Brookline Royals team from Moore Park. The Quaills finished the season 4-5-1 and in third place, while the Royals went undefeated (10-0) and took the conference championship. The final standings of the Metropolitan Conference in 1968 were as follows: Brookline Royals 10-0, Crafton
Heights 6-3, Brookline Quaills 4-5-1, Oakland Rams 4-5-1, Lawrenceville
4-6, East Northside 0-9. |
