Constructing the North End

Here are three photos showing the construction of the Pittsburgh End (North Portal) of the Liberty Tunnels. Construction began in December 1919 and was completed in 1924. The Liberty Tunnels were considered an engineering marvel at the time and their opening was instrumental in the development of South Hills communities.
