The Point Bridge

The Point Bridge
 1908

The Point Bridge in 1908. This was the first Point Bridge, a suspension bridge built in 1876. The bridge was demolished in 1927 and replaced by a newer steel framed Point Bridge, that stood until 1970. The Point Bridge was replaced by the Fort Pitt Bridge, opened in 1959. In 2008, the headstone of the second Point Bridge was found discarded on a hillside. It was quite a startling discovery as there were no museum pieces from the old span. The artifact is now preserved at Station Square.
